Watching the films versions of our literature texts can be helpful but there are a few caveats. Often, the film versions do not tell the whole story or are changed in terms of characterisation and dialogue. They can be a good way to cement ideas about plot and they can certainly help in the revision of key quotations. Below are a list of versions that we think are the best ones for each text and the only ones we would recommend. Other versions are may be changed too far beyond the original text:
A Christmas Carol: 1999 Patrick Stewart Version (available on YouTube here)
Much Ado About Nothing: 1993 Kenneth Branagh Version (available here on YouTube)
An Inspector Calls: 1982 BBC version (available on YouTube here)
Beyond this, getting out to the theatre and watching these texts as they are performed live is a fantastic way to bring them to life for pupils. We will endeavour to give pupils the opportunity to do this through organised trips this year but these will be on a first come first serve basis.
