The Alpha Olefin Sulphonate Price Trend in the second quarter of 2026 showed a strong upward movement in several major markets, including India, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and the United States. However, Indonesia experienced a decline in prices during the same period.Β
This difference shows how the chemical market can react differently to changes in demand, product availability, purchasing activity, and transportation costs. Alpha Olefin Sulphonate (AOS) is widely used in detergents, household cleaning products, personal care products, and other cleaning formulations.Β
Because these products are part of everyday life, demand for AOS depends heavily on the needs of manufacturers and the wider consumer market. During Q2 2026, the AOS market experienced price increases ranging from 40% to 85% across the broader Indian market assessment.Β
Strong demand, limited supply flexibility, higher raw material costs, and inventory replenishment supported this movement. At the same time, some markets recorded price corrections in June as product availability improved and buying pressure eased. Understanding these changes is important for manufacturers, distributors, importers, and procurement teams looking to manage their purchasing decisions.
The second quarter of 2026 was marked by strong price growth in several regional AOS markets. Buyers increased their purchasing activity to maintain sufficient stock and reduce the risk of supply shortages. When demand rises while suppliers have limited flexibility to increase production or deliveries, prices often move higher.
AOS manufacturers and buyers also faced pressure from the cost of important raw materials, particularly alpha olefins and sulfuric acid. These materials are used in AOS production, so changes in their costs can influence the final selling price. When raw material costs rise, producers may face higher manufacturing expenses, which can contribute to higher market prices.

Another important factor was the demand from detergent and personal care manufacturers. These industries require a regular supply of surfactants to maintain production schedules. When buyers expect tighter availability, they may place orders earlier or purchase larger quantities than usual. This behavior can increase short-term demand and place additional pressure on prices.
The overall market remained firm during Q2 2026, although price movements varied between countries and product grades. Liquid AOS and powder AOS also recorded different increases in India, reflecting differences in product demand and supply conditions.
India experienced one of the strongest price movements in the AOS market during Q2 2026. Export prices for both liquid and powder grades increased considerably compared with the previous quarter average. Limited supply availability, active procurement, and steady demand from detergent, personal care, and cleaning chemical manufacturers supported the upward trend.
The FOB Nhava Sheva export price for liquid AOS, based on C14-16 olefin, increased by 52% compared with the previous quarter average. Meanwhile, the powder AOS price, based on C12-14 olefin, rose by 84% over the same comparison period.
The larger increase in powder AOS indicates that price movements were not uniform across product grades. Differences in demand, production conditions, inventory levels, and purchasing requirements can cause liquid and powder products to experience different market trends.
Higher alpha olefin and sulfuric acid costs also supported the increase. At the same time, buyers increased procurement to secure sufficient inventories and avoid possible supply interruptions. This created additional buying pressure in an already tight market.
However, June brought some relief. The liquid AOS price in India declined by 11% compared with the previous month average, while the powder price decreased by 5%. Improved supply conditions, reduced buying pressure, and gradual market stabilization contributed to this correction.
Despite the June decline, both grades remained substantially higher on a quarterly average comparison. This suggests that the monthly price correction did not completely reverse the strong gains recorded during the quarter.
Unlike India, Indonesia experienced a weaker AOS market during Q2 2026. The CIF Jakarta import price for liquid AOS supplied from India declined by 10% compared with the previous quarter average.
The decline was mainly associated with reduced buying interest and improved product availability. Buyers adopted a more cautious procurement approach, which limited immediate purchasing pressure. Demand from detergent, personal care, and cleaning chemical manufacturers was also weaker than in the stronger regional markets.
When buyers have enough inventory or expect improved supply, they may postpone new orders rather than purchase additional material immediately. This can reduce market activity and place downward pressure on import prices.
However, the Indonesian market showed signs of recovery in June. The AOS price increased by 13% compared with the previous month average. Renewed purchasing activity and adjustments in supply conditions supported the monthly increase.
This movement highlights the difference between a quarterly average trend and a monthly price change. Although Indonesia recorded a quarterly decline, the June increase suggested that market conditions were beginning to change. Further price movement would depend on whether purchasing activity continued to improve and whether supply remained sufficient.
The United Arab Emirates recorded a strong increase in AOS import prices during Q2 2026. The CIF Jebel Ali price for liquid AOS supplied from India increased by 64% compared with the previous quarter average.
Tight product availability and consistent demand from detergent, personal care, and cleaning chemical industries were the main factors supporting the increase. Buyers also increased procurement activity to maintain inventory levels and ensure that production requirements could be met.
Higher raw material costs contributed to the upward movement. Alpha olefins and sulfuric acid are important inputs in AOS manufacturing, and rising costs can affect the pricing decisions of producers and suppliers.
For import-dependent markets, supply conditions can have an additional influence on prices. Buyers must consider not only the product's purchase price but also shipment timing, freight expenses, and the availability of material from overseas suppliers.
In June, the UAE AOS price declined by 10% compared with the previous month average. Improved product availability and lower market pressure supported the correction.
Even with this monthly decline, the quarterly increase remained significant. The market therefore reflected two different developments: strong price growth over the quarter and a gradual easing of pressure toward its end.
Bangladesh also recorded a firm AOS market during Q2 2026. The CIF Chittagong import price for liquid AOS supplied from India increased by 40% compared with the previous quarter average.
Limited supply availability and stable demand from detergent, personal care, and cleaning chemical manufacturers supported the price increase. Buyers increased purchasing activity to secure inventory and maintain a regular supply of raw materials.
For manufacturers of everyday cleaning products, a reliable supply of surfactants is important because production interruptions can affect finished-product availability. As a result, buyers may prefer to maintain sufficient stocks even when prices are rising.
Higher costs of alpha olefins and sulfuric acid also contributed to the upward movement. These cost pressures, combined with supply limitations, strengthened the market during the quarter.
In June, the Bangladesh AOS price declined by 11% compared with the previous month average. Improved supply conditions and reduced purchasing pressure helped ease prices.
The June correction suggests that the market was moving toward a more balanced position. However, the quarterly increase shows that supply limitations and steady downstream consumption had a substantial influence on prices during Q2 2026.
The United States recorded a strong increase in imported powder AOS prices during Q2 2026. The CIF Houston price for powder AOS based on C12-14 olefin, imported from India, increased by 76% compared with the previous quarter average.
Tight supply availability and rising demand from detergent, personal care, and cleaning chemical manufacturers supported the increase. Buyers stepped up procurement to maintain sufficient inventory and reduce the risk of material shortages.
Higher production input costs also contributed to the upward trend. In particular, increases in alpha olefin and sulfuric acid costs added pressure to the overall pricing environment.
Import prices can also be affected by the relationship between overseas supply and local purchasing requirements. When buyers depend on imported material and available shipments are limited, changes in supply conditions can have a noticeable effect on the landed price.
In June, the US AOS price declined by 4% compared with the previous month average. Improved availability and easing market pressure supported this relatively modest correction.
Although the monthly decline indicated some relief, the quarterly increase remained substantial. The US market therefore continued to reflect the effects of tight availability, active procurement, and higher production costs throughout the quarter.
The regional movement in Alpha Olefin Sulphonate Prices during Q2 2026 shows that supply and demand conditions were not the same across all markets.
The following figures compare the reported quarterly average changes with the previous quarter. They represent percentage changes, not absolute prices per tonne.

India's powder grade recorded the largest increase among the listed market assessments, while Bangladesh recorded the smallest increase among the markets showing quarterly growth. Indonesia moved in the opposite direction, with a quarterly decline.
These figures should be compared with care because they cover different product grades and trade terms. FOB prices generally relate to goods loaded for export, while CIF prices include cost, insurance, and freight to the destination port. Therefore, these changes do not represent identical pricing conditions.
The Alpha Olefin Sulphonate Price Chart provides a useful way to understand how market prices change over time. By comparing quarterly averages with monthly movements, buyers can identify periods of strong price growth, short-term corrections, and possible changes in market direction.
For Q2 2026, the price chart would show a strong upward trend in India, the UAE, Bangladesh, and the United States. Indonesia would show a different pattern, with prices declining on a quarterly average basis before recovering in June.
The Alpha Olefin Sulphonate Price Index offers another way to follow market direction. A price index can help buyers understand whether prices are rising, falling, or remaining relatively stable over a selected period. Its usefulness depends on the underlying data, including the product grade, region, pricing basis, and comparison period.
The reported percentage changes in this article are market movements rather than absolute price quotations. Without a common starting price and a defined index methodology, they should not be treated as a single consolidated global AOS index.
For procurement teams, regularly reviewing price charts and index movements can help with budgeting, supplier negotiations, inventory planning, and purchasing schedules. It can also help distinguish a temporary monthly correction from a broader quarterly increase.
Several factors influenced AOS prices during Q2 2026.
1. Raw material costs
Alpha olefins and sulfuric acid are important production inputs. Higher costs can increase manufacturing expenses and place upward pressure on finished AOS prices.
2. Demand from downstream industries
Detergent, personal care, and household cleaning manufacturers depend on surfactants for their products. Stable or increasing demand from these industries can support AOS consumption.
3. Product availability
Limited supply can cause buyers to compete for available material. When supply improves, prices may stabilize or decline, as seen in several markets during June.
4. Inventory replenishment
Buyers may increase purchases when inventories are low or when they expect tighter supply. This can strengthen demand in the short term.
5. Regional trade conditions
Import requirements, shipment availability, freight costs, and local purchasing activity can cause prices to move differently across markets. This helps explain why Indonesia experienced a quarterly decline while other markets recorded strong gains.
The Alpha Olefin Sulphonate Price Forecast depends on how raw material costs, supply availability, and downstream demand develop after Q2 2026.
The strong quarterly increases in India, the UAE, Bangladesh, and the United States suggest that supply limitations and purchasing activity were important market drivers. If availability remains tight and demand from detergent and personal care manufacturers stays firm, prices could continue to receive upward support.
However, the June corrections in India, the UAE, Bangladesh, and the United States indicate that prices can ease when product availability improves and buyers reduce their immediate purchasing requirements. Indonesia's June recovery also shows that market direction can change as purchasing activity improves.
A balanced outlook should therefore consider both upward and downward pressures. Higher raw material costs and restricted supply could support prices, while better availability, weaker buying interest, and more comfortable inventory levels could reduce pressure.
Rather than assuming that the large Q2 increases will continue at the same pace, buyers should monitor monthly price changes, supplier quotations, raw material costs, and regional inventory conditions. These indicators can provide a more practical basis for purchasing decisions.
The outlook presented here is a market-based assessment, not a guaranteed prediction of future prices. No specific price target or percentage increase can be established from the Q2 data alone.
