RARIORA 2024 'GENESIS'
RARIORA 2024 'GENESIS' hosted by the Department of Biotechnology, SRMIST conducted various interactive workshops and activities. Students of class 11 and 12 participated in various workshops.
Workshops conducted were aimed at providing students with practical experiences related to their biology curriculum. The workshops were held on October 25th, 26th, and 28th Oct 2024, and gave Class 11 and 12 students hands-on experience in scientific techniques. Here’s an overview of the workshops:
1. Microbes Around Us
Students learned various staining techniques.
They performed Gram staining technique on curd to observe bacterial presence.
They observed fungal growth on bread samples.
2. Brain Dissection
Participants dissected a real goat brain and studied its parts in detail.
3. Tying the Knot DNA Style
The students engaged in DNA fragmentation using gel electrophoresis to learn about DNA separation techniques.
4. Leaf it to Chromatography
Using column chromatography, students separated and identified pigments from Neem, Tea, Coriander, and Spinach leaves.
Additionally, students were given a tour of various labs to explore the research facilities, offering them insight into advanced scientific research methods. This experience not only strengthened their understanding of theoretical concepts but also inspired a deeper interest in biotechnology.
