Clarification from the RRPS Athletic Department (received Aug 25):
Good afternoon,
The intent of this email is to provide clarification regarding middle school students who participate on high school athletic teams:
8th Graders can play C-Team Soccer, but they are not provided early release from middle school.
8th Graders can play C-Team Softball, but they are not provided early release from middle school.
*There are no other exceptions for 8th graders playing C-team. Only Softball and Soccer.
8th Graders can play at the JV/Varsity level in any sport, and are allowed early release provided they submit all paperwork.
It is the high school head coach's responsibility to declare what high school level the 8th grader will be playing for. Middle schools will not be burdened with making early release accommodations for athletes who FLOAT from C-Team to JV.
I hope this helps.
Respectfully,
Todd

8th grade students are eligible to participate in high school athletics programs at the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. This now includes football. Here is the link of the Contract for 8th Grade Early Dismissal to Participate in High School Athletics Practices. This form must be completed after the student-athlete makes the high school team.
