Course content
Introduction, basic principles of Additive Manufacturing, historical context, classification of processes, generalized process chain for AM, build Preparation: data formats, STL files, data conversion, Slicing Algorithms, build orientation determination, computer aided process planning for AM, direct slicing, Processes -- System architecture, process physics and modelling, material, defects and constraints. Vat photo polymerization, Powder bed fusion, Extrusion based processes, Material jetting, Binder Jetting, Sheet Lamination, Direct energy deposition, novel process developments, Design for AM, Materials and Microstructure, Rapid tooling/industrial drivers/business and societal impact, hybrid manufacturing, process selection, challenges and capabilities, Rapid tooling, Role in Industry 4.0.
