PROGRAM NOTES:
Autumn, towards the end of it, always ends up feeling like a transitional part of the year rather than its own season. I always end up forgetting that when September rolls around, but it becomes more apparent as the season continues, especially since the weather stays nice longer in McMinnville than it does in the Puget Sound area. I wrote this piece to reflect the feeling of autumn slowly fading away into winter and was mainly inspired by a Vince Guaraldi piece titled “Snoopy and the Leaf.” First of October contains passages of wind sweeping the falling leaves about, animals scurrying around in preparation for the winter, and ice beginning to form as the freezing cold seeps in towards the end of the season.
