Systems biological investigations of brain networks

“The answer lies in the simplest explanation.”

I am trained as a medical practitioner with a Bachelor in Dental Sciences (Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, Punjab) and fashioned myself to be a computational biologist with an M.Tech degree in Bioinformatics (IIIT-Allahabad). With my interest in studying brain, I joined the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering, IIT Jodhpur as a PhD research scholar in the supervision of Dr. Ganesh Bagler. I have been working on “Systems Biological Investigations of Brain Networks” involving integrative modeling of structural and functional brain networks. In my thesis research, I have studied control mechanisms of brain networks, specifically that of C. elegans, towards identification and characterization of their driver neurons. We have also proposed a distance constrained connectivity model that explains controllability in C. elegans neuronal network. Further, we have investigated brain functional networks with the aim of identification of topological markers of schizophrenia.

I am looking for career opportunities in the broad areas of computational and systems biology.
