Welcome! I’m Muhammad Rafsan Kabir, an MSc student in Computer Science (thesis-based) at the University of Calgary, where I work as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Biometric Technologies Lab (BTLab) under the supervision of Dr. Marina Gavrilova. In addition, I am also serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Department of Computer Science, University of Calgary.
My research interests lie at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, Trustworthy AI, Multilingual NLP, AI in Healthcare, and Reasoning in Large Language Models. I have published my research works at several top-tier venues, including EMNLP, WACV, ICPR, Nature Scientific Reports, IEEE Big Data, and IJCNN, with work spanning LLM alignment, multilingual reasoning, efficient model development, RAG systems, and medical image analysis. Overall, my long-term research goal is to develop efficient, reliable, and trustworthy AI systems that can operate effectively in real-world and resource-constrained settings.
Alongside my research, I am actively involved in teaching and academic service, demonstrated through my roles as a Graduate Teaching Assistant both at the University of Calgary and North South University (Bangladesh). I also contribute to the scholarly community as a reviewer for several high-impact journals and conferences, including Neurocomputing, Knowledge-Based Systems, Engineering Applications of AI, Expert Systems with Applications, Nature Scientific Reports, and IJCNN.
Before joining the MSc program, I completed my BS in Computer Science and Engineering from North South University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a full scholarship.
