I am a tenured Assistant Professor (Universitair Docent) in Mathematics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My work is supported by a VENI grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and by a VU Startpremie grant. Moreover, I am an Elected Member of the Inaugural Cohort of the European Mathematical Society Young Academy (EMYA).
Previously, I was a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, where I led a research group funded by a Minerva Fast Track Fellowship from the Max Planck Society.
I am the author of the forthcoming book Stories Behind Theorems (Springer), co-author of the children's book Bear Networks (Zenodo), and co-author of the forthcoming research monograph Spectra of Discrete Structures (Cambridge University Press).
Outside academia, I am passionate about swimming, swing dancing, and storytelling. I have performed at storytelling events across Europe, and I gave a TEDx talk titled Dancing out of the box.
My mathematical nickname is Graphaella.
