At this moment, I've completed my graduation from University of Dhaka and my major was Theatre and Performance Studies. Here, I’ve learnt the craft that I’ve been grossly passionate about since I first started to feel the nuances of world literature and its reflections of life.
I never knew that I would take acting as a profession but that’s ancient history. The moment I set foot on the stage for the first time, the lights blinded my eyes. I had an epiphany right there that may be this is where I belong.
And to turn that feeling into a palpable reality, I’ve been working my heart out. I am prepared to RISK IT ALL. This wasn't an easy decision for me .
But it has its perks too. What other profession lets you become an emperor and also a beggar within a fortnight? It lets us live so many lives and the personalities that come with it. I want to embrace those with all my heart. I might sound a bit melodramatic… but in the end, I think I couldn’t agree with Shakespeare more that this world is a stage and we all have our exits and entrances. Sometimes we have control over them and sometimes we don’t. At least in this profession, we get to control when we exit and enter!
I've been working with Open Space Theatre since January 2020. We practice naturalist acting pattern & improvised performences every day. There are five theatre shows we do regularly. And we do workshops almost every week with new participants. We believe that improvisations are key elements for actors to grow . So, we focus on improvisations more to make things interesting. That's how we practice.
I, however, never wanted to limit myself to one thing only. This is why I like to spend time behind the scene as well. It gives me a better understanding of the perspective and of the world that remains unknown to the audience. The stage has taught me one thing that the life behind the curtain where the real magic happens. And I’ve always liked the harmony in the midst of backstage-chaos.
My goals are rather simple and straightforward. I want to learn more and hone my skill as best as I can. I think I have a long way to go before I can fully stretch my wings and I want to stretch them as far as I can.
