Creativity can be defined in many things. From sketching, sewing, or even daydreaming alone, there's something that grows on the right side of the brain. When you think of summer camps, you think of arts and crafts, campfires, and swimming. Yet for a growing wave of these young creators, creativity is becoming something much bigger, a tool to connect, inspire, and build communities. Two teens located in the United States show just how powerful they are.
For the team behind Dream Big Girls Camp, their missions began close home. After watching their younger sisters grow and explore who they wanted to be, they felt inspired to create a safe space where girls could dream as boldly as they wanted.
“We created Dream Big Girls Camp in order to help inspire all girls to dream big to become whoever they want to be when they grow up!” the founders explain. What started as a simple idea for a local summer camp quickly grew into something bigger. Seeing their campers light up with joy as they tried new activities became the most rewarding part of their work.
“The most rewarding part is seeing the girls’ joy and excitement throughout the day as we do the activities! And when girls tell us that they love camp so much they want to do it again!” That joy motivated them to create something lasting: the Run-Your-Own Dream Big Girls Camp Packet, a free guide to help other teens start camps in their own communities. This resource turned their dream into a ripple effect, empowering young leaders to take the first step toward making their visions a reality.
Another teen creator is dreaming big in their own way. Dani, a talented young costume designer based in Las Vegas spends her free time, and even school hours, sewing for her theatre department and building cosplay creations that tell powerful stories. At first Dani simply posted her work online as a portfolio, but much like the Dream Big founders, she discovered her creations meant something to others.
“My account started as just a portfolio but ended up growing into something more when I realized people wanted to support the things I did,” she states. For Dani, sewing is a deeply personal form of expression, but it’s also about connection.
“I put a lot of love and time into what I make, and just seeing the effect it can have on someone to find something that reflects them is amazing. Sewing generally makes me happy, so I’m glad to share that with others.” One of her proudest projects was a Silent Hill nurse cosplay, where she challenged herself by making a latex mask for the first time. It was proof that even ambitious projects are possible when you take the leap.
While both Dani and the Dream Big team are spreading inspiration, their journeys haven’t been easy. For the camp founders, social meda pressure has been a major hurdle.
“Sometimes I can feel a bit burned or or overwhelmed from the pressure of social media, but then I remember my amazingly supportive followers, the community I've built, and my mission to inspire others and then it's all worth it!” Dani shares a similar struggle, balancing schoolwork and her passion for sewing.
“Its hard to have free time to sew when you have so much going on, you really need to pay attention to yourself and make sure not to do too much, or you can burn out very very quickly, and it's hard to start again once you’re worn out.” Both stories reveal an important truth, creating is joyful but it's also work. The pressure to be perfect or to grow fast can make young creators doubt themselves. Some advice Dani and the Dream Big founders have given are;
“You don't have to post what you create,” Dani reminds others. “If you need to work up the courage, that’s alright. Take your time, if you rush things, it won't be a good experience. What you make is for you, so enjoy the process.”
The Dream Big encourages other teens to take risks, “Just go for it! You never know what’ll happen until you try. Even though creating and starting something new can be very scary, it’s beyond worth it to just be brave and put your ideas out there!”
Whether it’s a summer camp that sparks a movement or a costume that makes someone feel seen, Dani and the Dream big team are proof that teen creators have power to transform their communities. They remind us that creativity isn’t just about making things, it's building connections, inspiring others, and dreaming beyond what seems possible. From the first stitch to the first camper, every idea matters. When young creators take that first step, their dreams don’t just stay theirs, they ripple outward, lighting sparks in others and weaving a brighter future, one project at a time.
