Why now?

As womxn* working within social change spaces, we experience a seemingly never-ending pace of work that is unsustainable. Add on top of that the daily presence of micro or macro aggressions against our intersectional identities, navigating systemic oppression based in patriarchy and white supremacy and the end result is the erosion of our physical, mental, and emotional health.

Social change organizations and movements lose out when badass womxn of color don’t get the support we need to thrive. In order to create the just, equitable, and peaceful world that we so deeply seek, we need strong and vibrant leaders to guide the way. We believe those leaders are womxn or color. And we believe that we deserve spaces to nourish our growth, inner wisdom, wellbeing, and leadership in a new and affirming way.

As womxn, we know the power of being in community. It is the antidote to the stressful, toxic environments that many of us experience in our daily lives. Having a supportive and nourishing space that supports us to heal, grow, is not only critical to our emotional, physical and spiritual health and wellbeing but critical to our social change movements. When we are well, we can be more fully present and available for ourselves, our work, our families and our communities.

*Womxn includes cis-womxn, transwomxn, gender-expansive, and non-binary folk

Radical Roots

We draw inspiration for our name from tree forests, the lungs of mama earth.

Trees of all varieties grow as a community, thriving in cooperative, interdependent relationships, close communication and collective wisdom. Interconnected through root systems, they share nutrients and resources to support one another. Each tree is an individual, yet all are connected in community. We believe humans can learn from the wisdom of tree forests, to live and thrive in community and in cooperative relationships as we support one another in our work.

Radical? Yes! We believe it is a radical act to affirm our inner wisdom and wellbeing.
