Each recipe presents one way to solve a particular problem. Of course, there are likely several reasonable solutions to each problem. When weknew of multiple solutions, we generally selected the simplest one. Forany given task, you can probably discover several alternative solutionsyourself. This is a cookbook, not a bible.

I have never bought a cookbook. There. I said it.

I hated cooking up until a few years ago but I am slowly getting into it. Most of the recipies that I do use come from websites or blogs (like yours). I do love looking at the gorgeous pictures in cookbooks, though. These are making me hungry!

I also love the The Best Recipe cookbooks by the Editors of Cooks Illustrated. Their approach sounds similar to the AMT cookbooks. I also have a thing for vintage cookbooks for the stories and culinary anthropology aspects.

The American Heart Association's flagship cookbook is back and better than ever. This latest edition, including 800 recipes from appetizers to desserts--and everything in between--is the ultimate cook's resource.

Soby's New South Cuisine 2nd Edition Cookbook is the latest version of our award-winning cookbook originally published in 2007. It is updated to include 15 new dishes with 35 new recipes, new photography and current information about Greenville.

The cookbook includes 219 four-color pages with more than 122 enticing recipes from the award-winning restaurant and 200 color photos. It also pays tribute to the Southeast and the nationally acclaimed revitalization of downtown Greenville, SC.

Theoretically we could specify specific versions of community books our custom books depend on and then set our cookbook versions in the environment config, but the problem is that those community books could rely on some other books without specified versions. And that deep nested dependency could go on an on.

The only solution I can see at the moment is to specify every single cookbook verion we use in the environment config, including community and custom ones. But then I have to go through each cookbook and figure out those versions.

The article Essentials of cookbook versions is the best reference for cookbook versions. According to #1, you're right because it's a tough job to manage different version of cookbooks to serve different configuration set especially it's mixed with cookbook dependencies where most of the cookbook from cookbook site doesn't do this job well. So configuration may break. and if you didn't manage the versions by testing the runtime behavior of any component, it just breaks. So it's a bad idea to upload cookbook without specifying the version number in you environment object. So manage the cookbook versions in environment object, and carefully test when promoting version of any new cookbook. I usually manage the environment object in SCM and didn't upload to chef server via automated job until the changed cookbook can work well with rest of other existing component.

"I love this cookbook because not only because its recipes lead with umami, comfort, and ease, but Lara spends so much time educating about the dishes and imbuing her own sense of family into it. The Soy Ginger Potatoes are on heavy rotation right now!" - Hannah, Operations

"I am very excited about Alexis deBoschnek's upcoming cookbook, To The Last Bite -- her recipes are classically timeless, elegant and there's a recipe in there for a greens skillet pie that I cannot wait to recreate." - Aishwarya, Founder/CEO

"Pasta is my 'go-to' cookbook whenever I need inspiration. Heading into spring/summer, I have been searching for ways to 'elevate' vegetables. The 'Contorni' (side dish) recipes are excellent--Olive Oil-Poached Zucchini with Grilled Bread and Oregano is going to be a staple in our house this summer." - Nora, Operations

"I love everything about this cookbook from the simple, thoughtful recipes to the charming illustrations by Japanese artist Masanao Hirayama. The recipes include a mix of staples from Frederik's renowned restaurants in Copenhagen along with his personal favorites that he cooks at home with his family." - Nora, Marketing

"One of my go-to cookbooks is Vegetable Literacy by Deborah Madison. It's a wonderful source for cooking through the seasons. One of my go-to recipes is her romesco sauce which I make with Brightland's ALIVE olive oil and New Mexico chile powder. Makes everything it touches even more delicious!" - Alisha, Product

Since you're looking to pin a version from within a cookbook, why not declare it in metadata.rb? That will have a direct effect on the include_recipe statement you're using, forcing that include to use the version declared in your metadata.

Example I have a cookbook with the version 1.2.8.4. I uploaded to chef server. I realized I did something wrong with the cookbook content how do i rollback to previous version 1.2.8.3. Since this is production cookbook I do not want to take risk uploading wrong cookbook. I just changed the cookbook version in the metadata.rb still I see chef-server is using my recent cookbook I uploaded 1.2.8.4.

The knife cookbook delete command will remove the cookbook from the Chef Server. You may specify both the name of the cookbook and the version of the cookbook you would like to delete. When you specify a version, only that version of the cookbook will be removed from the Chef Server. All other versions of the cookbook will remain on the Chef Server.

With these ideas in mind, I spent the next four years researching and writing The Heritage Cookbook. This book investigates the connection between genetics and nutrition, and combines it all into a massive cookbook. The book will teach you how to discover your own ancestry through genealogy research and genetic testing, and then walk you through the cultural history of every major ethnic group in the world, so that you can learn some of the unique historical elements that influenced the cultures we recognize today. From there, I walk you through the history of every major food group, and provide examples of how the historical consumption of those foods may influence your health today.

Whether you're a seasoned cook, so to speak, or simply trying to get by in the kitchen, the holidays present a good time to try to take up a new cookbook and try out some recipes. NPR's Books We Love has a lot of recommendations for you from our staff and contributors. Four of them take us around the world with cookbooks that they enjoyed this year, beginning with Wynne Davis of NPR's All Things Considered.

JANET WOOJEONG LEE, BYLINE: Hello there. My name is Janet Woojeong Lee, and I'm a producer on the education desk. The book I want to recommend to everyone this holiday season is "The Woks Of Life: Recipes To Know And Love From A Chinese American Family: A Cookbook." It's the debut cookbook from the Leung family. They run the Woks of Life blog that launched in 2013. I would say it's a really good Chinese American cookbook for both nerds and newbies. So there are some more intense restaurant-style recipes like siu mai or biangbiang noodles. And then for folks like me, there's quick stir-fry recipes or even things like how to make really good rice, which will make a huge difference to your meal. But more than anything, it's a story of them coming from China and learning to live together in the United States and living really in between the two countries, and all of that told through food.

The oldest cookbook I own is a 1964 reprint of the 10th edition (1959) of The Fannie Merritt Farmer Boston Cooking School Cookbook (now just referred to as The Fannie Farmer Cookbook). I also have a 1980 copy of The Fannie Farmer Cookbook (12th edition). Both of these cookbooks belonged to my Grandma and I inherited them.

I always wondered who Fannie Merritt Farmer was and what made her write her first cookbook. Fannie Merritt Farmer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 23, 1857. At age 16 she had a stroke which prevented her from attending college. Fannie instead stayed home and to help out around the house started to learn how to cook. Once she had recovered enough from her stroke her parents encouraged her to attend The Boston Cooking School, which she graduated from in 1889. Fannie was asked to stay on as the assistant director and eventually in 1894 became the head of the school.

Hi my name is Kim and I am a cookbook addict. I love the way a cookbook can inspire me to try a new ingredient or a new dish. I hope these reviews help you pick the best cookbooks for you and your family.

This post focuses on the top 10 cookbooks to make sure to include in a cookbook collection. For someone interested in cookbook collecting, this will give you a head start on the basic books to include as the foundation of your collection. These are the more mainstream cookbooks of the past. They may not necessarily be the most valuable of cookbooks as many antique cookbooks, signed cookbooks and cookbooks of present day often fetch higher prices, but these are are definitely the basis of a solid collection. Some of these books have been reviewed in-depth in this blog with their collectibility ratings for anyone interested in more detail. I have included some of the top-level information for each below as well as links for those which have been rated in earlier blog postings.

Publisher: General MillsĀ

Ā Copyright: 1961, First EditionĀ

Ā Formats: Hardcover with a Mondrian style pink, yellow, white and blue coverĀ

Ā Average Price: $45 ($75 for the First Edition, First Printing with a hardcover format)Ā

Ā Notes: Another Betty Crocker classic. I have an earlier (1950) Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book rated on my blog, but the 1961 Betty Crocker's New Picture Cookbook is the most valuable of all the Betty Crocker cookbooks. It is important to find a good condition copy or the value will go down substantially. With some cookbooks--they are so rare--imperfections can be forgiven, not with this one. 17dc91bb1f
