Quokka Community is going to be a non-profit 501(c)3 organization serving people with developmental disabilities (PWDs) and rescue animals. Our eventual goal is to have a cul-de-sac with several manufactured houses where PWDs can live with as much independence as possible, while still having caretaker(s) living alongside them for safety.
Within the community, Rachel's Rescues will serve as home for domestic animals with disabilities and as a rehabilitation center for small wild animals such as squirrels and oppossums. Eventually, Rachel's Rescues hopes to open a foster-to-adopt program for the domestic animals once they are stable enough to find their "furever" home. Other animals will contine to be housed onsite as part of Rachel's Rescues animal group home and petting zoo.
While at Quokka Community, PWDs will have the option to find meaningful, paid work onsite, including working with the petting zoo animal, assisting with rescued animals' care, maintaining the guest cabins, and growing food for the residents of Quokka Community (both animal and human!).
