I have used cmd+shift+5 to screen record video on my computer for a while, but recently, without changing any settings, they are no longer saving. As usual, when i finish recording the small thumbnail for the video is shown in the bottom right but it never shows up on my desktop. I have tried redirecting the file to save other places, but it keeps disappearing. If it is any help, the thumbnail in the bottom right seems slightly darker than normal. Thank you.

in the recording options, can you try and de-select "Show Floating Thumbnail" which will stop the recording from appearing on the bottom right of the screen? maybe then it will save to the desktop. (even though, the floating thumbnail setting shouldn't affect the save option)

In options, I've selected my desktop for "Save to" and have also tried restarting a couple times. I have plenty of disc space on my computer so that's not a problem either. And I am not sure what you mean by selecting "Quicktime Player" unless you are referring to the small video in the bottom right hand-side of the screen after i finish recording, in which case it does open and I can share but if i just close it (not delete it), it doesn't save anywhere.

If in the bottom row you click on one of two video recording buttons (to record the whole screen or a selection) and then go to the Options menu, one of the options under Save to is Quicktime Player. (Just like for still screenshots one of the options is Preview).

A rectangle with a dashed outline and a menu at the bottom will appear on your desktop. From the menu, you can choose to record your full screen, select a portion of the screen to record or record a selected window. You can also use this feature to take a screen capture of a window or part of the screen with the QuickTime recorder, as well.

OBS Studio is an open-source program that enables users to record their screens and/or live stream their recordings. With its webcam capture capability, users can insert videos of themselves into their screen recordings for tutorials, presentations, and live streams.

I'm using Macos 11.5.2 on my Macbook Pro 2020 and when I try to record screen using Quicktime with audio, I used Airpods Pro and before I recorded, I went to Options -> Microphones -> Airpods Pro, then click Record. The Airpods Pro gave the the weird loud sound and turn off

Hi, thanks for your message. Yes, I've tried changing the audio source on Quicktime to internal mic, but it just records externally, ie. it records me talking. I have the same problem if I try the screenshots app.

I used to be able to do it, before I updated to Mojave. I didn't have to set anything, I just screen-shotted a video, and it automatically recorded with sound. I have also tried Soundflower, but it didn't work either. After downloading/installing, if I chose that option, it just silenced the whole computer. (all volume settings are up).

I am attempting to record an app demo on the simulator, and want to use the Quicktime screen capture feature. However, I would like to hide the mouse during the capture. Is this possible? Doesn't seem to be a built in feature, so I am assuming I need to use some sort of plugin or hack.Any suggestions?

However, if you do not need to use QuickTime per se, it seems there are commercial screen recording solutions allowing this sort of thing such as Screenflow. I am not affiliated but the price seems reasonable and there is a demonstration of desired behavior here.

You don't record your app in your computer, but directly on your iPad or iPhone, connected to your Mac with a lightning cable. Then in Quicktime you select the "New movie recording" option (instead of "New screen recording"), then you will be able to select your iPad/iPhone as the "camera" and start recording your app running in your iOS device without any mouse pointer.

Although, this doesn't seem to resolve my issue. I'm trying to screen record using Quicktime Player and every screen recording I do seems to pick up on my microphone audio. I want the recording to include my computer audio only, without recording my microphone. Quicktime is not on my list of apps, therefore I cannot disable microphone access by deselecting the checkbox in my privacy settings > Microphone, as the instructions say to do.

Glad it's now working for you. If you end up doing a lot of these then it might be worth revisiting the QT issue, and there's also the command line screencapture utility (though it isn't well documented).

The laan (hi Jason!) post above seems to be gone. I humbly offer our app that does most of what you want for free. It also lets you choose specific apps (as well as your whole screen) and you can deselect apps later if you don't want them in the final export Motif time lapse screen capture

I'm trying to record both what's happening on screen and the audio being played by the applications. To my surprise, QuickTime did not record the sound. I believe it worked before in previous OS X releases, but that is not something that I use often so I have not bothered to try earlier. ff782bc1db
