Welcome! I'm Quentin Cavalan, a researcher specialized in experimental economics. I built a strong foundation in quantitative analysis during my engineering studies at ENSAE (the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration) before earning a Ph.D. in economics from Paris 1 University and the Paris School of Economics in October 2023. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at GATE Lyon-Saint-Etienne and emlyon business school where I co-organize the GATE-Lab seminar. My main interests center on understanding how individuals form beliefs and how these beliefs influence their decision-making.
Trained as an economist, my research lies at the intersection of economics and psychology, with publications in both fields. I primarily consider myself an experimentalist, though I also engage in theoretical work when it helps refine my understanding of observed behavior. I particularly enjoy brainstorming experimental designs, designing and coding experiments, diving into the data to see what it reveals, and producing clear, compelling figures for my publications. My Ph.D. research focused on confidence and metacognition, individuals' ability to monitor and regulate their cognitive processes, and their impact on labor market decisions. In my current position, I'm working with Astrid Hopfensitz to explore beliefs and decision-making within couples.
I genuinely enjoy teaching and have taught extensively. I have covered a range of subjects, including macroeconomics, microeconomics (with an emphasis on game theory and industrial organization), statistics, public economics, and the history of economic thought, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Beyond academia, I find joy in playing and composing music. I am currently involved in several bands: I perform as the double bassist for Répons' and experiment with synths and electronic sounds in Kaarg and Aywaz.
