Queer Youth Choir is a creative music-making group in Ottawa's queer community. Open to all youth ages 14-18 who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, queer spawn, and/or allies, this group builds music skills in a choral-education environment where youth have agency over their learning and musicianship. The choir rehearsals incorporate games and breakout sessions to explore things like theory, movement, music appreciation, composition and arranging, etc. based on participants’ interests and backgrounds.
Summer 2025 marked the inaugural pilot of this project. Stay tuned for future editions!

Testimonials from past participants
"This experience was an extremely fun way to spend my summer, it gave me a reason to show up and socialize with others in my age range. It kept me engaged and in good spirits, I would absolutely recommend this to any queer youths in the area!"
"I felt safe. I love how we were asked what makes us feel safe and what makes us feel unsafe, so that we end up feeling safe in this space. I love the sense of community. I love how it was made to be a safer space. I love the aspect of the choir. 10/10 experience."
"Queer youth choir was so amazing, it really felt like a judgment free space where everyone is accepted. I love the community that was made through out the weeks."
"The kind and relaxed atmosphere of it made me feel safe and supported. The adults didn’t feel like scary figures of authority and there weren’t expectations that felt too high or unreasonable."
"Queer youth choir made me feel safe and respected all the time, it was an amazing experience to be apart of a choir and to practice confidence singing with others. I enjoyed making friends of fellow queer/allied youth! I love everyone here and the effort they put into making everyone safe !!!!!!!!! ✨ "
