Mr. Queen (Korean: ; Hanja: ) is a 2020 South Korean television series based on the Chinese web series Go Princess Go. Directed by Yoon Sung-sik, it stars Shin Hye-sun as Queen Cheorin and Kim Jung-hyun as King Cheoljong. The drama is about Queen Cheorin finding herself with the soul of a modern-day man inside her body, and King Cheoljong striving to be a king who helps his people.[2][3] It aired on tvN every Saturday and Sunday at 21:00 (KST) from December 12, 2020, to February 14, 2021.[4]

Despite its controversies, the series is the tenth highest rated drama in Korean cable television history, with the last episode reaching a nationwide rating of 17.371% and garnering more than 4 million in viewership.[5] It also set a record for tvN by achieving the 5th highest rating in the network's history.[6]

In March 2020, Shin Hye-sun was confirmed to be a part of the drama.[14] In June 2020, Kim Jung-hyun, Bae Jong-ok, Kim Tae-woo joined her to play lead roles in the series.[15] In July 2020, Seol In-ah[16] and Yoo Young-jae[10] also joined the cast.

It also marks the second collaboration of Shin Hye-sun with actors Bae Jong-ok, Kim In-kwon and Lee Jae-won with whom she acted in the film Innocence and the dramas Angel's Last Mission: Love and Legend of the Blue Sea, respectively.

Following its airing, a controversy erupted in episode 2 as the series referred to Korea's national treasure, the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty as a "tabloid." This drew outrage among viewers and about 700 people filed complaints to the Korea Communications Standards Commission.[75] The series was also criticised as the author of the original Chinese drama has made negative remarks about Korea in their other work.[76] The producers released a statement clarifying their stance and apologising for the controversies, adding that they were not aware of the negative comments made by the novelist.[77]

An 8.0% viewership rating was recorded nationwide for the first episode, making it the second-highest premiere rating of any weekend drama of the network[78] and fifth-highest premiere rating of the network after Hospital Playlist 2,[79] Jirisan,[80] Mr. Sunshine,[81] and Encounter.[82][83]

As per Nielsen Korea, the final episode logged a national average viewership of 17.37%, breaking its own highest ratings, thereby making the series 5th highest-rated drama in Korean cable television history.[84]

Queen Seondeok (Korean: ; Hanja: ; RR: Seondeok Yeowang) is a 2009 South Korean historical drama produced by MBC and Time Box Production for the former's 48th founding anniversary, starring Lee Yo-won, Go Hyun-jung, Uhm Tae-woong, Kim Nam-gil, and Park Ye-jin. It chronicles the life of Queen Seondeok of Silla.[1] It aired on MBC from 25 May to 22 December 2009 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 for 62 episodes.[2]

It was filmed on location at MBC Dramia in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Other historical dramas such as Dong Yi, Moon Embracing the Sun and Jumong were also filmed there.[20]It was filmed at the Shilla Millennium Park[21] in Gyeongju.

The series adopted significant artistic license regarding the portrayal of historical events in order to accommodate the dramatic storyline. Notably, the reign of King Jinpyeong was compressed by over two decades such that in the series, Queen Seondeok was born within a year of his coronation (her actual date of birth is unknown). Accordingly, the preceding King Jinheung's reign was extended by a similar period, with him being depicted as an elderly man at his death. This allowed for Mishil and other prominent figures during Jinheung's reign to be involved in events concerning the Queen during her time as Royal Princess, even though there is no evidence to suggest what sort of interaction the two had if any.[22][23] Artistic license was used to imagine her as being of a similar age to Kim Yushin and Bidam, though again, it is not clear historically if this was the case. Another major change was in the date of her death: Bidam's execution and Kim Alcheon's appointment to his post were ordered by Jindeok of Silla, ten days after Queen Seondeok's death. Queen Jindeok is not mentioned in the series. More subtly, the real Seondeok likely never left Silla (stories concerning her childhood in the palace survive) and did not know Latin.

Now with concerns to the ending, I knew Eun Bo was going to be pregnant and give birth to a son. And, of course, they would meet again before the drama wrapped up. Although I had hoped to see how they will make her queen. I feel that would have been a more exciting way to end things.

The Korean Wave, or Hallyu, refers to the popularity of Korean entertainment productions, including film, television drama, pop music and online games. The Korean Wave has boosted South Korean exports of television programs and pop music, while TV dramas have continuously increased and dominated Korean exports of television content. Despite the name, Korean dramas include many genres such as comedy, romance, action and history. Korean dramas usually have between 16 to 24 episodes, each episode is almost one hour long.

Korean dramas differ not only by the plots and music, but also in their playing. At the beginning, it may look odd for a non-Korean to watch, for the acting is somehow overacting and emphasizing; but, this is how Koreans behave in reality! Also, the Korean beauty standard is different from the western, and focuses on skinny tall figure, v-shaped jaw and big eyes. Makeup is also different, for Koreans tend to whiten themselves, highlight their eyes and lips. Korean beauty standard has it that even guys put on basic makeup.

Mr. Queen, the ninth highest-rated cable drama in Korean history, couldn't offer more delights if it tried (and oh, does it try). Consuming any piece of popular media involves the weight of expectation: could this possibly be as excellent as its reputation claims? Does it truly deserve to be a top 10 K-Drama? When it comes to Mr. Queen, set those worries aside and bask in everything a fan could ask for as well as everything you didn't know you needed: a historical setting replete with palace intrigue, a reluctant romance, body-swapping time travel, and a romance somewhere on the queer spectrum. Created by Studio Dragon, one of Korea's most prestigious production companies, all 20 episodes of Mr. Queen are available on Netflix, and where has this drama been all of our lives? (To be fair, the series aired in Korea from December 2020 until February 2021. But for an experience this sublime, two years was an unfairly long time to wait.)

Meet Jang Bong-hwan (Choi Jin-hyuk): a 21st-century cooking prodigy with an ego as boundless as the ocean and a womanizing reputation to match. He's the affluent head chef for the South Korean president, so his suave arrogance, although eyeroll-inducing, isn't without merit. However, Bong-hwan's hubris gets him in, ahem, hot water politically, and he almost drowns in his apartment swimming pool while running from the police. When Bong-hwan wakes up from the accident, he's in a different body and a different time period: a woman's body during the 1800s Joseon dynasty, to be exact. To make matters even more complicated, the body he inhabits belongs to the controversial queen of Joseon, Kim So-yong (Shin Hye-sun). To survive the cutthroat world of palace politics, Bong-hwan must solve the supernatural mystery behind this body swap and contend with King Cheoljong (Kim Jung-hyun), his thoroughly irritating husband who has secrets of his own.

Praise for Shin aside, her co-lead is far from a slouch. After stealing scenes and breaking hearts as Gu Seung-jun, the second romantic lead of Crash Landing on You, Kim Jung-hyun landed the leading man role he deserved in Cheoljong as well as one that develops his existing strengths. His precise comedic timing proves a match for Shin (obviously no easy task). And once Cheoljong's secret intentions are revealed as honorable and liberating, what more might one ask for in their romantic hero? Here is the country's most powerful man in title, but in truth a puppet king who's battling against his own sociopolitical and ideological confines. He has frequent nightmares; he falls in unexpected love with the queen he despised; he's tender, and full of enough yearning to burst (with a healthy dash of harmless sexual frustration that just makes him more endearing).

I read some reviews before jumping into this drama, and many people said that the first ten episodes or so were a bit slow and boring. Because of that, some quit watching before the drama became really interesting and dramatic.

This drama may not be the most interesting one with the hottest actors or actresses acting in it. It may not be a drama with a strong plot that keeps viewers interested up until the end, but it focuses on many important themes like teamwork and never giving up. It brings up other themes too, like working hard to reach your goal, which relates to the theme of persevering and never giving up. Not every drama has such constructive themes as this one does. tag_hash_118

Like the drama title suggests, this drama is quite a drama of reversals. On the love side, there are reversals with results that are the opposite of what we might have initially expected. On the work side, the outcomes are also the opposite of what they first appeared to be. The title suits the drama well, which is nice since not all dramas have titles that correlate well with the actual drama.

But when So-yong's affectionate feelings are felt by Bong-hwan in her body, he takes the flower bouquet from King Cheoljong and starts beating her body with it. And... the drama is back to its comedic self. 006ab0faaa
