Quality Based Distance Face Database

Characteristics of QDF Database

This data-base consists of faces with variations in pose, resolution, illumination and partial occlusions. The unique feature of the QDF is that all images have been evaluated with respect to the standard quality measures. This is perhaps the first time a face data-base with state-of-the-art quality indices have been made available to the research community. The researcher needs nor resort to artificial means to degrade face quality while testing the algorithms for quality variations due, distance, pose, illumination, occlusion etc. The salient features of our QDF database can be outlined as follows:

  • Images are taken under natural uncontrolled illumination conditions;
  • A single camera has been used to capture the images from various distances. The subjects have been asked to not to look into the camera or look at a fixed point to replicate the typical scenarios of a real-life surveillance.
  • The data base has been constructed using facial image frames of natural video sequences while the subject walks towards the camera.
  • Database contains images of 110 subjects with 32 variants with respect to distance, pose, partial occlusion and illumination.
  • Every face has been marked with a Face Quality Scores (FQS). This score has been computed in following sections.

Sample face of four subjects

Sample face of four subjects taken at a distance of 1 meters for different pose and occlusion.
