I clipped the model parts off of the sprue and popped them into a little box (see previous guides about losing bits!!). Each part was then trimmed with a knife to remove mould lines, and lightly sanded with some fine sandpaper/manicuring board. The model was assembled and glued leaving the spear and half arm unattached to allow access to the back of the model, and the hair was glued on once the shoulder pads were painted. The little lantern was left off until late on because it would definitely have been broken off by my big clumsy mitts during painting!

She is entirely painted using Vallejo acrylic paint including the Brotherhood logo and text that I airbrushed stencil on before beginning the figure. The finished painting is protected and sealed with UV cut Matte clear spray varnish.

I am a self-taught artist from Finland. My art is mainly inspired by ocean, nature, fauna and flora. I have been painting actively for six years now and the joy of painting is still as strong, if not even stronger, than when I first started. I also do print on demand quite often. I wish to show my art here and share it with people who like nature art, as well as some other paintings that I create. I also hope to connect with other artists and to share the joy of painting with you all.

More often than I can count, I have people say to me, "I can't even draw a stick figure," which always makes me smile. We are most intimidated, in many cases, when tasked with depicting people. It makes sense, really. They are so dynamic and can have so much variation. And, of course, we can get hung up on small details not being exactly right when we're painting or drawing specific people.

Today's video is a watercolor tutorial on how to paint people. I've created this video so you can follow along while I paint the two figures below, highlighting the aspects of these two hikers that compelled me to paint them.

tag_hash_105A student of Haddon Sundblom, Elvgren is perhaps best known for drawing and painting pin-up girls. His style was so similar to Sundblom's that he could finish paintings that his mentor had started.

As of late, I have been incredibly inspired by the 50s, as well as the pin-up and glamour artwork that so often is associated with it. In my personal research and scouring for pin-up art, I stumbled across Gil Elvgren, an American painter, advertiser, and illustrater. Born in the spring of 1914, Gil created some of his most famous pieces in the in the 40s and 50s.What I love about him most (aside from his perfect balance of realism and playfulness), is how he used his wife to pose as his model for near every pin-up piece he made. Pin-ups were designed to reflect the "perfect woman," and I adore how Gil viewed his wife as just that.To channel Gil's spirit and try working from a model, check out our Figure Studies in Grisaille, Figure Painting, Figure Drawing, Life Sculpture, or Pastel & Oil Portraiture class.

Art-Deco pin-up master. Worked exclusively as a cover artist, painting oils for Film Fun, Screen Romances, Stolen Sweets, Gay Book, Judge, Titter, Cupid's Capers, Live Stories, Tattle Tales, Gay Parisienne, and the endless "Stories": Pep, Breezy, Snappy, Bedtime, Spicy. Often did premier issues.

Excellent portraiturist, using the faces (and figures) of young starlets like Myrna Loy, Ida Lupino, etc. Admired by, among others, Alberto Vargas, who has been mistaken for Bolles in one famous and continuing case (see below). Rumor is he died insane. Not true. Suffered a stroke, 1938, and retired to Florida (he was a Florida native). Continued to be published for a number of years.

He liked to take his original pin-ups and add abstract touches. The reasons for these additions are unknown: boredom, experimenting, decreased mental capacity (a stroke can do that to you, but it doesn't make you nuts!), or all three. An interesting note: it's common for artists to collect the work of other artists, even if it's only tear sheets. Some of the scans below were taken from magazines perviously owned by Alberto Vargas, issues that sold astronomically high on eBay.

Digital illustrator J. Aton enjoys depicting pop-culture figures and celebrities in a classic pin-up style. Based in Louisiana, Aton uses Photoshop techniques to depict superheroes, TV personalities and more in a glamorous style.

The artist particularly enjoys creating pin-up style portraits of female superheroes and television newscasters. Aton also takes commissions through his website, www.atondigitalstudios.com. Some of his commissioned works are available for viewing in his portfolio, in which real subjects are depicted as fictional heroes or in fantastic costumes.

A great post. I have ony seen discussions of a portrait/flesh palette in terms of the classical and romantic palettes. The others you brought up were a revelation. I'd seen them before in paintings, but not appreciated what they actually were doing. Thank you so much. I look forward to the next posts in this series.

www.jamesart.com is the website on which ALL his merchandise is available. The company produces a world-famous line of female resin sculpture kits. Also produced are editions of Mike James signed, girl art drawings, and female pin-up photography as well as a few paintingstag_hash_110_done on canvas.

Within 2 years, he had a large following, 85% male, but to his amazement, 15% female. Soon, much larger resin kit companies began imitating him, coming out with their own female figures, mostly of poular comicbook characters (Mike's characters are of his OWN creation).

Yet after all these years, Mike's female figures are still regarded my many as among the finest, most original, female characterizations ever made. Stylistically, they have a unique and voluptuously tasteful erotic style,. It's been much imitated but never duplicated.

Calling Mike James's female pin-up phototgraphy mere "photography" is actually bit of a misnomer. These are as much illustrations as photos; actually, they are exactly that...one half photography, one-half illustration. And Mike controls both stages completely.

Fernando Botero Angulo was born in the city of Medelln, Colombia, in 1932. He attributes his unique style of inflated figures to the bloated baroque architecture of the city. Can you spot the Botero monument here, in front of the Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe?

While Botero was an impassioned young artist, at the age of 12 his uncle sent him for two years to a school for matadors. But Botero preferred to paint - the first watercolour he made was of a matador - and he started his art career selling paintings of bullfights.

Botero says that he finally decided to become an artist after finding a copy of Esquire magazine and seeing the painted pin-up girls of Peruvian artist Alberto Vargas. Botero may not be a matador, but his blood runs red.

By the 1960s he was living in New York, USA, and experimenting with distorted figures. In 1969, his work was shown in the exhibition Inflated Images at the Museum of Modern Art. This is the event that established his reputation as a major painter. 589ccfa754
