This Privacy Policy describes how QR Reader ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use our mobile application. We built QR Reader to work with minimal data collection, and this policy explains exactly what is (and isn't) collected.
QR Reader uses your device's camera to scan QR codes and barcodes. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device using on-device recognition technology. No camera images or video are recorded, stored, or transmitted to us or any third party.
Scanned codes (text, URLs, or other decoded content) are saved locally on your device only, so you can view your scan history later. This data:
Is never uploaded to any server
Is never shared with us or any third party
Can be cleared anytime from within the App's settings
Is removed automatically if you uninstall the App
If you use the WiFi QR code generator feature, the App may request location permission. This is required by Android to read your currently connected WiFi network name (SSID) — this is an Android OS restriction, not something we choose. Location data:
Is used only to auto-fill the WiFi network name field
Is not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere
Is not used for tracking of any kind
If your version of the App does not include the WiFi QR generator, this permission is not requested.
QR Reader does not collect:
Personal identifiers (name, email, phone number)
Contacts, messages, or files unrelated to app function
Precise ongoing location or location history
Browsing or search history outside the App
Any data for advertising or profiling purposes, unless explicitly stated in an updated version of this policy
Since almost all data stays on your device, there is minimal "use" of information by us. Any data processed locally (scan history, generated codes) exists solely to provide the App's core functionality to you.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. We do not have servers that receive your scan data, camera feed, or location.
[If applicable — remove this section if not used] This App may use the following third-party services, which have their own privacy policies:
[e.g., Firebase Analytics] — for anonymous crash reporting and usage statistics
If any such service is included, please refer to that provider's privacy policy for details on data they may collect.
QR Reader is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can address it.
Since scan history and camera processing remain on-device, your data benefits from your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We recommend keeping your device's operating system updated for best security.
You can clear scan history anytime from within the App
You can deny or revoke Camera/Location permissions anytime via your device Settings (note: denying Camera permission will prevent scanning functionality)
Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective Date" above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
