Professor Thayer has published a co-edited volume: Downing, K., Thayer, J., & Begiato, J. (Eds.). (2021). Negotiating masculinities and modernity in the maritime world, 1815-1940: A sailor's progress. Palgrave Macmillan. In addition to acting as co-editor, Prof. Thayer has also co-authored the Introduction chapter and contributed a solo-authored chapter on sailors' boardinghouses, which preserve essential archival traces of sailor culture in New York City from census data to evidence of labor strategies and cultural footprints.
