binary or AB form - the designs of songs have two different parts
first section - labelled A
second section - labelled B
can be determined - contrasts in moods, melody. or rhythm

ternary or ABA form - it has three sections the third section is just a repetition of the first section
middle section - contrasting with the first and the third sections

unitary form - only one part or one section

strophic for or AAA form - only one part but repeated many times
Example: Tao, Tao Po
