Discussion
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere/environment at any time suchas the temperature, cloud cover, fog conditions, air pressure, humidity, andprecipitation.
Climate is the long-term pattern of the weather conditions.
The climate in the Philippines is typically hot and humid all year-round
because of the breeze from the Pacific Ocean and the West Philippine Sea.
There are two distinct seasons in the Philippines
a. Dry Season is from December to May and
b. wet/rainy season is from June to November. The hottest days are between March and April. These are the warm months, so the temperature is as high as 32°–35°C. Many people go to beaches or cool places like Baguio or Tagaytay when the temperature is very high.
The coldest days are in the month of January. Temperature during this
month reaches as low as 15°C, particularly on the highlands. Baguio, which has an elevation of 1,500 meters, has a cool temperature that makes it the summer capital of the Philippines. The wet/rainy season usually occurs from June to November.
The weather in the Philippines changes because of the monsoon. monsoon is a seasonal wind flow that usually brings heavy rainfall. There are two kinds of monsoon.
a. habagat or southwest monsoon which blows from May to December. During these months, the country receives heavy rains from the moisture-laden winds. As the month of December enters,
b. amihan or northeast monsoon begins to blow. This causes cooler weather for most parts of the country.
People in the community adapt their clothing and shelter according to the weather conditions. Clothes protect our body. There are different kinds of clothes for different weather conditions.
We wear light clothes like shorts, loose dresses, and shirts when the
weather is warm.We use jackets, raincoats, and umbrellas during rainy days.We wear thick clothes like sweaters, jackets, bonnets, long-sleeved dresses, and T-shirts to keep us warm during cold weather.
Batanes is often visited by storms. The houses that the Ivatan people built were made of stones and were heavily structured. This kind of house can withstand the storms that may come to the province anytime. The Ifugao’s mountain house has thick roofs. The windowless house cage protects the occupants from the cold, sun, and rain.
The bahay-kubo found in the rural areas is a house that breathes air. Since it is largely made of nipa, bamboo, or wood, it is suited to our hot and humid climate. These houses are made of light materials which could be easily replaced when destroyed. But there are those houses made of strong materials. This makes them sturdy, thus, they can withstand.
