Discussion
A map is a flat representation of a continent, a country, or an area. It shows the exact location of any place. A map is an important reference because it provides information of specific places.
To be able to use the map effectively, knowledge about directions is important. There are four primary directions and four secondary directions. In naming the secondary directions, north and south are mentioned first.
The primary directions are north, south, east, and west. The symbols that will represent these directions are N, S, W, and E. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Batanes is located in the northern part of the Philippines and Saranggani is in the southern part of the country. There are four secondary directions, northeast (NE), southeast (SE), northwest (NW), and southwest (SW). Northeast direction is between north and east. Southeast is between south and east, northwest is between north and west, while southwest is between south and west directions
Map Symbols
There are other symbols that are seen in a map. These symbols represent roads, bridges, hospitals, churches, schools, municipal/city building, and other infrastructures. Even the different landforms and water forms that identify the place are seen in a map. Symbols used are used in maps as directions.
