North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has named Mr. Damon Williams as chief of police and director of public safety, beginning July 13, 2020. Chief Williams will report to Ms. Akua Matherson, interim vice chancellor of Administration and Finance.

Chief Williams has over 15 years of law enforcement experience. He previously led several municipal police departments. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Chief Williams was an educator for the Moore County School System.

As a member of the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, Chief Williams served as its Region 2 director before beginning joining the executive board of directors. He also chairs the training committee and serves on the mental health committee. Chief Williams is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Association of Chiefs of Police and serves on several committees for the State of North Carolina. He has been a strong proponent of the Police Activities League and practices a philosophy of community policing.

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After serving as interim chief of staff for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Erin Hill Hart has been named to the permanent role by Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr.

Hart provides oversight for the Board of Trustees and the Board of Visitors; serve as liaison between the University of North Carolina System and campus community; and provides managerial oversight to the offices of External Relations, University Relations and Special Events.

Kimberly Tyson, director of the Office of International Affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, has received the prestigious Fulbright International Education Administrators award for the 2024-25 academic year, affirming her exceptional leadership and contributions to global connectivity in higher education.

Joseph L. Graves Jr., Ph.D., MacKenzie Scott Endowed Professor of Biology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is among three 2024 Genius Award honorees at the 12th Annual Liberty Science Center Genius Gala.

Fire Chief Benjamin Ormond began his career in eastern North Carolina with the Pactolus Volunteer Fire Department in Pitt County. As a second-generation firefighter, he transitioned to municipal firefighting with the City of Greenville where he also worked as a paramedic and was a founding member of the NC Task Force 10 USAR Team. For the last 16 years of his career his work has spanned the globe with various contract firefighting jobs in locations like lraq, an international airport and an industrial facility in the us, and Diego Garcia located in the British lndian Ocean Territory where he served as Fire Chief for the US Naval Support Facility.

"I have been blessed with a wonderful career that has allowed me to travel the world, and now I am excited to return home to North Carolina. lt is my true honor to be selected as the Town of Franklin's next fire chief," said Chief Ormond. "Franklin Fire and Rescue has a rich history in delivering high quality service to the community for over 100 years. I look forward to being a part of this outstanding department and the town's leadership team."

Ormond has a Masters in Emergency Services Management and a Bachelors in Fire Science. He is also certified as a fire officer lV, fire instructor lll, fire inspector ll, and many other fire rescue related specialties. Most recently he obtained his credentials as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and member of the lnstitution of Fire Engineers (MlFireE).

"Many well qualified applicants showed interest in the position, both locally and from afar," Town Manager Summer Woodard said. "After careful consideration of the merits each applicant brought to the position and the needs of the fire department, Ormond was chosen to take on the role and to lead the department forward."

The Town of Franklin announced a search for Fire Chief in August when Chief Matthew Breedlove resigned from the position. A committee consisting of fire department members, town staff, and fire liaison and Town Council Member Dinah Mashburn spent countless hours reviewing applications, arranging interviews, and organizing meet and greets with applicants and Fire Department staff.

"lt was an honor for me to be involved in the selection process of the fire chief position for the Franklin Fire Department, and during those interviews we spoke to several great candidates," Mashburn said of the process. "Franklin Fire Department is a combination of volunteers and paid employees. lt was very important for the search committee to select a new chief who understood the value that both the volunteers and paid staff bring to the Franklin Fire Department. We felt that Chief Ormond understood that value, and that he brought many other attributes to the job".

The Governor appoints the members from a list of nominees submitted to the Governor by the State party chair of each of the two political parties having the highest number of registered affiliates. Not more than three members of the State Board shall be members of the same political party.

Occupation: Retired lawyer, volunteer voter registrar, member of the Dix Park Conservancy and The Flower Shuttle boards, and church refugee committee (sponsoring an Afghan family). Millen was chief judge in a Raleigh precinct for 13 years.

Doug Foster joined the South Carolina Department of Commerce as Chief Information Officer, leading the Office of Information Management and Technology (IMT), in November 2023. He brings more than 30 years of IT leadership experience in higher education, consumer products, chemical manufacturing and consulting.

Doug comes to S.C. Commerce from the University of South Carolina where he served as the chief information officer for more than six years. His career includes notable accomplishments in developing and implementing IT governance structures, enterprise portfolio management, and business relationship management.

He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a master's degree in Technology Leadership and Innovation from Purdue University. A graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership's Leadership Development Program, he has certifications in IT Service Management and Project Management, and also serves as a founding member of the South Carolina Chapter of the Society for Information Management.

Travis E. Overton of Nashville/Murfreesboro, Tenn., has been with Coastal Carolina University since July 2007. As vice president for executive initiatives/chief of staff, his duties include supervision of CHANT411, Information Technology Services, Scheduling and Event Services, University Marketing and Communication, as well as assisting in the operations of the Office of the President.

Most recently serving as vice president of student rights and responsibilities/dean of students, Overton has worked in various areas of student affairs including housing, fraternity and sorority life, student conduct, and off campus student services. He is a member of the National Association for Presidential Assistants in Higher Education (NAPAHE), Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA). Within ASCA, he served as the 2017 ASCA Annual Conference chair, 2020 Assistant Gehring Academy Chair, and 2021 Gehring Academy Chair.
