Q: When should I contact Prof. Hsieh if I’m interested in joining AMIP?
A: You may contact Prof. Hsieh after you receive admission from National Chung Hsing University. Since students in AMIP are expected to complete a two-year training program, so getting an early start is encouraged. If you’ve decided to join AMIP, please briefly introduce yourself and email your transcript to Prof. Hsieh. He will arrange an interview with you.
Q: What kind of background should I have before joining AMIP?
A: It’s helpful if you’re familiar with calculus, linear algebra, and programming (such as Python or MATLAB) . You don't need to master all of them beforehand, just some experience in one or two areas is enough to get started.
Q: What can I expect to do in AMIP?
A: You'll dive into reading research papers, formulating problems, doing mathematical derivations, coding, experimenting, debugging, and writing and presenting your research findings.
Q: Do I need to come up with my own thesis topic?
A: You may choose a research topic related to either applied mathematics or image processing. Prof. Hsieh will guide you with the basics, and by the end of your first semester, you should be ready to propose a thesis direction. If you're unsure, he’ll provide some possible topics to consider.
