The PUP-Department of Library and Information Science, a student-centered program, is committed to produce globally competitive librarians and information analysts with agile minds, limitless imaginations and robust hearts.

The program serves as an instrument in shaping, honing and sharpening professional librarians who are fully trained, well-equipped, competent and responsive to the research and intellectual needs of the community. It focuses on the development, deployment, and management of information resources in print, non-print and electronic formats.

The PUP-DLIS curriculum is anchored on the Commission on Higher Education’s standard requirements and prescriptions that provides students with the foundation of librarianship to achieve their full potential - intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.

Aside from the required number of training hours for different types of libraries, PUP-DLIS students are essentially skilled in the integration of management information systems and information technology for successful delivery of library resources and services.

Graduates are employed in all four types of libraries namely: special, public, academic and school libraries and many of them have also opted to continue their graduate studies.

Some PUP-DLIS graduates have been very active in various professional organizations that make them more productive, effective and efficient in the field of librarianship.

Worth mentioning about PUP-DLIS graduates who have showed consistent and impressive passing rate during licensure examinations being administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

As the world continues to evolve and technologies innovate, the PUP-DLIS program is committed to continuously contribute to preparing, training, and shaping individuals into service-oriented, hard-working, competent and capable professional librarians.
