An honest update from the author, Punny Panda
Hi, this is Punny. And I have some news about the Witch's Pie project.
For the past three months, I’ve felt like I was terminally ill—hoping to be freed from it all, hoping that my -4 vision would magically return to 100%… but reality speaks louder than hope.
We live on a planet with specific birth rates, user activity levels, and economic gaps.
Out of 8 billion people, around 4 billion use Google. Over a billion are in China. The remaining 3–4 billion don’t even have stable internet access—let alone make online purchases.
The art and entertainment niche is dominated by Disney, Netflix, and Hollywood.
They’ve divided the market like a pie into three large slices. The tiny fourth slice is left for “everyone else”—with only 0.0001% going to beginners.
This is an indie project. It needs time to connect with an audience, build relationships, and create video content or shows.
It’s not like Netflix, which can drop a teaser for “K-Pop Hunters,” throw millions into ads, and immediately create a successful two-year franchise.
Soon we’ll all be seeing merch of a demon crow, a cute cat, and three stunning girls.
Fan artists will flood the internet, chasing the hype.
I feel like I’m 15 years too late with this idea.
There’s no response, no job, no income—and I have to draw almost nonstop, hoping to attract just 100 people to my Patreon.
My social media accounts? Still stuck at 100 followers. Not even 2,000! Which would be a decent start.
I’m learning a new skill because I want to quit freelance comic work.
Finding clients is nearly impossible now, and when freelancers get $10 per page? Game over, folks.
I’m currently studying animation and code. I’m watching what actually sells in those markets.
If you see a job opening for a designer—know this: 300 people are applying.
No one even replies to most of them.
2D artists and designers are everywhere. It’s seen as the “easiest” digital profession.
I’m not giving up on Witch’s Pie or the Punny Panda website.
But I need to generate some kind of income. That’s why I’m preparing a different project—one that typically performs better in the market.
This is business. Nothing personal.
I know this site gets about 100 visitors a month.
Wow. I don’t know who you are—but thank you! That actually surprises me.
The plan was to:
Finish 40 manga pages
Release a visual novel episode
Start producing animated YouTube videos
Announce a launch date—like August 2
But my market research shows that Witch’s Pie won't bring in many buyers at launch.
Even the top indie creators with massive audiences rarely make more than 1,500 monthly sales at $5 each.
The same, but with another project.
I’m also diving deeper into coding, game creation, and animation.
New articles will keep appearing on this site.
I’m building a game portfolio, full of ideas.
Also coming:
A course on Anime Illustration, clear and honest—how to improve your skills and actually make sales, based on the experiences of my colleagues.
Sales are always unique to your personal journey.
The Games section will expand
The Novels section will also grow
It will stay within the same magical theme to build brand awareness and connect everything in the future.
The story follows a boy with a mysterious past, sealed inside a letter that won’t burn or sink—and he can’t open it.
The address leads him to a magic academy. There, strange powers are at work…
He becomes a student and is dragged into a war between two powerful magical clans fighting for control of their world.
Website coming soon https://sites.google.com/view/ace-magic-academy/home
If I can find income streams that give me time freedom, Witch’s Pie will develop faster.
My goal is to build a large creative brand.
Thank you for reading.
