At first, I couldn’t draw at a market-ready level and got rejected because my skills were too low.
Then, when I improved my skills, the rejections turned into: “not the style we’re looking for”, “doesn’t match what we need”, or “she has anime in her portfolio”.
And that’s the whirlwind you’re caught in right now — drawing studies, improving your skills, doing test tasks — only to receive vague, emotionally subjective rejections.
Others get hired through connections, or just because they’re young and “easier to mold.”
And you? You're living off your parents or partner, occasionally getting $100 commissions, hoping that someday a studio will finally take you in with a $2,000 salary.
But you’re in Wonderland now — no, they won’t hire you. That “we didn’t like it” follows you everywhere. Free test tasks? You’re paying for the electricity out of your own pocket.
Time goes by, and now… maybe you're even ashamed to say your age when asked.
Because let’s be honest — the digital world only hires “20 to 26-year-olds,” right?
So guess what? The cashier job down the street might be your next shot — if the spot is open.
That’s why I made my website — for people like you.
Go read what I wrote, and take a moment to stop.
I know there will be many more like you.
You’ll keep walking into this bloody maze over and over again.
I’m burnt out. I’m done.
No more studios. No more test tasks.
And comics or book illustrations for pennies? Oh please...
It’s funny how some people proudly replace themselves with AI — but trust me, you’ll be disposed of fast.
Where do I work now?
I don’t know.
I’m starting from scratch — and I’ll document my journey here.
