I am Nicolas Labiento, a college student studying at SUNY Old Westbury College. I am majoring in the field of P.E.L and minoring in Economics. I am also a student-athlete, who plays baseball and runs cross country for SUNY Old Westbury. As a student-athlete, I feel like it is important to have a voice on specific adjustments and changes going on around campus. In my Junior year at SUNY Old Westbury, I was elected President of the Student- Athletic Advisory Committee. A position in which I must adhere to issues for student athletes and take responsibility for reforming and fixing those issues, very similar to the role of the government. I am currently on pace to graduate on time and pursue my interests in a career in the field of economics.
I am currently studying a course called Public Finance and Public Policy, taught by Professor Veronika Dolar. In this class we analyze public policy around the world as well as dissecting the roles and duties of the government and discussing how involved the government should be in assuring a quality standard of living for its members of a particular society. With that being said, we discuss the fiscal policy which involves taxes, subsidies, and government spending, and we also analyze decisions made by different governments around the world and further breakdown advantages and disadvantages to government intervention on a given topic.
