PSDians participated in the Virtuocity Valorant E-sports Tournament, an E-sports competition based on the popular first-person shooter (FPS) game Valorant. This event transpired in the Virtuocity Arena in Doha Festival City, Al Daayen, Qatar, from August 29-31 this year.
There were 32 teams who participated in this competition. They battled for the championship, with multiple PSDians teams in the tournament. These teams included Kahit Ano Na Please, G11, and The Extraordinary Gang.
One of the competing teams, Kahit Ano Na Please was composed of Grade 11 students Timothy Rivera, Travis Dimal, Nathaniel Mamangun, and Franz Gulan. This group competed in the first round but lost to the ORYX eSports team 1-13, and was eliminated from the bracket.
Mamangun expressed his astonishment, despite facing difficulty against other teams in the tournament. He added that the spectators screamed and the commentators spoke like the FIFA Cup commentators.
Further, Gulan shared that he felt nervous, yet the members of his group decided to have fun and learned from this experience.
Meanwhile, another grade 11 team competed in the competition. They were Renz Belarmino, Earl Tolentino, Jared Navera, Cyrus Urbano, Sedhryx Sale, and Rubix Bayla. They won against GGGMAC 13-1 in the first round, but were outsmarted during the championship ( Dark Nebula 6-13) in the following round.
Moreover, Tolentino stressed that they won during the first round because they communicated well on what would be the best moves to be played during the competition.
Another team played at the said event, this was The Extraordinary Gang. This group is composed of Grade 11 students Gjuan Salvador, Jan Bryan Dela Cruz, Yeshua Ligot, Mustafa Eid Hamatto, Jahred Mirabueno, and Marc Garcia. They joined in the first round, yet they were outlord by the Renaissance with the score of 9-13.
"We did not have a warm-up that whole day, we just played right away and we came from school," Thus said Salvador with an emphasis that they made it a close match against the Renaissance.
These PSDian E-sports competitors concluded by remembering the lessons they learned during the tournament. These were the collaboration and sportsmanship which could not only be shown via physical sports, but also in E-sports.
