"Slot" Explanation

You may have noticed that after each attack, there is a fraction behind it (i.e. 5/8, 1/8, etc.) All enemies have a total of 8 "Slots" for possible attacks (not including scripted attacks, if they have those). When the game decides which attack to use, if a condition isn't met, it will randomly choose one of those 8 slots and execute that attack. Once a slot is chosen, the next turn, the game will choose from the 7 slots that were NOT chosen from the previous turn (in other words, the same slot will NEVER be chosen twice in a row).

For example, let us look at Profound Darkness 3. Her slots look like this:

When the turn starts, the game will choose one of those 8 abilities at random to use. Let's say it chooses Slot 5 (Megid). When the next turn starts, the available slots looks like this:

There are now 7 slots that can be chosen from at random. So it is possible if the game chooses Slot 4 or Slot 6, that Megid could be cast for the 2nd turn in a row. But, let us say that Slot 8 was chosen (Cancelling). The next turn, the available slots look like this:
