Redefining equity through authentic student learning
PS 60 The Alice Austen School has a long history of designing units that connect, elevate, and empower students. During the 2022-2025 school years we are taking our work a step further by refining our approach with an eye towards transfer, impact, and authentic audiences. Through the help of Dr. Leah McConaughey and The Urban Learning Institute we shifted our lens of learning from what students know to what they can do with what they know. This has not only transformed the depth and authenticity of student learning experiences, but how students perceive themselves as agents of positive change in their community.
How has PS 60 transformed the concept of PBL? Listen as teachers describe a shift towards authentic transfer through the use of impact and audience.
Hear teachers discuss how effective school leadership impacts their thinking and challenges them outside of their comfort zone.
