"Beauty of Consciousness" Digital Painting by Sara Vang

looking for an outlet to express your pain? please use vividly to steady yourself through art and poetry.

Hi, my name’s Sara Vang! I’m a senior at North High School with a love for all arts and the curator of this project. Vividly: The Beauty of Consciousness is a project I started directly because of my experiences with mental illness. From a very young age I was depressed, but I never spoke a single word of it to anyone. I hurt myself and others a lot, which culminated in my freshman year of high school when I was put into a rehabilitation center for planning to kill myself. This event forced me to consider the future and to think deeply about myself. My depression was a direct effect of my self-isolation. I had felt like I had no one to go to and as a result I was consumed by the pain I kept inside. It hurts me because I know that there are people out there who have experienced this pain, because I know first hand how debilitating and excruciating the feeling can be. You try to convince yourself, but it’s just so hard to when the future you want is so seemingly out of grasp. That’s why all I can really offer you is a metaphorical shoulder. Vividly is a space for you, for me, for everyone to spill their pains and find solace in others. I fear a future devoid of empathy; one isolated, and unconnected. I hope that through Vividly, we as a community counteract this and welcome each other with open arms. Please use Vividly to steady yourself. You have complete freedom to express your pain because pain is too often overlooked.

Mission of Project Vividly

Our mental health is crucial, but in an age of overwhelming information and limitless connection, this mental health of ours will eventually and inevitably burn out. We become lost in seas of media and in our thoughts and when we are lost, we fail to reach out. The purpose of this project is to counter this process, to reach out to the community and encourage connection. We offer an outlet, one for those who wish to portray their vivid lives. In doing so, we hope to find unexpected connections between each other while also raising funds for our local Mental Health America through the sale of community submitted works in a zine.
