HOW TO PLAY & FAQs

• NOTE: the game board is not interactive.  Having a notetaking app or pen and paper nearby will help you keep track of your progress. 

• OBJECTIVE: work on 5 products/prompts during your participation in the game. You can increase the number of prompts if you desire

• Begin at the "start" tile (or last prompt space if you are a returning player) and use 2 dice to determine how many spaces to move.  Continue to roll the dice until you land on a prompt to choose a product

• If you roll a double, follow the number of spaces to your prompt (sorry, no perks here!) 

• If you land on a prompt, choose a product for that prompt and either:

  1. choose your number of uses 

  2. or use the random use wheel to determine your number of uses

     • If you get "Roll the dice" - let the dice choose your uses for you!

• If you land on a challenge tile, spin the challenge wheel to determine your prompt (it may be a product prompt or an activity prompt). Spin the random use wheel if you want to randomly generate your uses for your challenge (if applicable). 

• If you land on "Go to jail" space, go directly to "Finish it Jail" and choose a product to finish. If you still haven't chosen your 5th prompt to work on, continue the game. 

• If you land on "Finish it Jail", you are just a visitor unless you came from the "Go to jail" spot - keep rolling!

• If you land on a "move X spaces" tile, move forward the indicated number of spaces

• Continue to roll dice, move spaces, spin wheels, and choose products until you have 5 prompts to work on until your next update. 

UPDATE FREQUENCY: Suggested frequency of updates is monthly.  You can choose to begin at the "Start" tile again at every update or at your last tile from your last play. Update on your progress on your products/activities and roll for the number of prompts you need to be working on 5 products/activities total.  Use the hashtag #projectpanopoly and tag @theimpulsivepanner if you remember!

What does Panopoly mean? It's a real word meaning "Wide-ranging and impressive array or display" and it also seems to be some sort of drupal package (coding stuffs).  But in this context it's a play on "project pan" and a very famous board game ending in "opoly" (yes the one with the guy in the top hat).  Project panning is an activity where you try to "hit pan" or use a substantial amount of your makeup products. The community of "project panners" tries to practice mindful consumerism around beauty products and gamifying product use has been an effective way to keep up the progress.  

Why isn't the board interactive? I'm not a software developer, so it's just a fancy image for now.  If you would like to help me make it interactive, please message me! 

Can you win at this game? It wasn't intended to have any competitive rules.   There is no in-game currency or method to win other than pride in your hard earned beauty empties and uses!  But with some feedback, I've outlined some suggestions on how to make it a multiplayer game! See "Multiplayer options" below

Why did you make this project?  I was inspired by a custom game board and I love project panning, so this idea was born!

Who can participate? Anyone who is interested in project panning!  This is probably one of the more involved games I've come across, so feel free to choose easy usage goals if you're just beginning. 

What are the challenge prompts (3rd Edition)?

• Declutter - is there an item that you've been thinking of getting rid of?  try it at least one more time and then make the decision to declutter or not!

• Franken a product and use 5 times - create your custom mix of any beauty product! Do your research if you are unsure if some ingredients are ok to mix together. 

Some ideas:

• • mix highlighter into body lotion

  • mix lipsticks together for a cream blush

  • mix and repress eyeshadows for a custom color

  • mix foundation shades for the right match

• Rainbow Look: create a look with as many colors as possible!

• Monochromatic Look:: create a look with 1 shade

• Clean your makeup: this is always a neglected chore - wash your brushes, wipe down your packaging, and sanitize your products!

• Hit Pan: pick a product that is close (or far) from being "panned" and hit that goal!

  • "panned" = either see the bottom/side of a pan or a visual goal on a jar/tube product 

How can this game be multiplayer? (this is just one idea) 

Requirements: players have to use the random usage wheel for every prompt and update monthly for 6 months. 

You can either call out who you are playing with or just play for yourself. 

Each player earns 1 point for every goal met. If it is a jail product, you get an extra point (incentive to get it done!). 

Each month you can choose up to 5 prompts to contribute towards your points.  If you play with more than 5 prompts at a time, you can choose which prompts contribute the most points to your total. 

You get bragging rights if you get to 30 points or highest number of points at end of 6 months wins!
