About Project Malaya
Project Malaya project aims to support the students of Malaya Elementary School by providing essential school supplies and emergency items. The main goal is to promote education and health among the children in this community. This will be achieved through a donation drive in partnership with student organizations across Florida, collecting supplies for the school. Through this effort, I hope to empower young learners, relieve financial burdens on families, and foster a culture of giving and solidarity between communities.
Community Needs
The city of Malaya is a rural area, many citizens typically working in agricultural settings and careers. Many families often find themselves struggling to provide adequate school supplies for their children. These financial struggles can impact a student’s self-esteem and academic performance. Supporting these families with school supplies ensures students have equal access to education and reduces the barriers associated with lacking supplies.
With the increase in typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters in the Philippines, the community is also vulnerable. Many families also lack access to basic emergency supplies. By providing students with small emergency items, students have the tools to respond accordingly.
The Solution
School Supplies
Through donations of basic school supplies such as composition notebooks, crayons, pencils, and backpacks we will be able to positively impact a student's experience in the classroom!
The most crucial part of this project is collecting donations from students, friends, and family! Whether that is physical supplies or financial help, anything is appreciated.
GoBAG Essentials
With the recent rise of natural disasters in the Philippines, students must come to school prepared with the tools to act in case of emergency. Many families lack these resources to keep their children prepared.
Through fundraising efforts we hope to buy emergency supplies such as whistles and flashlights for students to keep in their backpacks.
Our Impact
With my City Director project, my goal is to make the gap a little smaller by providing basic school supplies such as books, pencils, backpacks, and emergency items such as face towels and whistles, all in hopes of giving more access to education for those who may have trouble affording it. I aim to bridge the gap between education and student accessibility through donating school supplies and hygiene products, all in hopes of making the transition to schools much easier for the student and the parent.
Our Partners
As part of Project Malaya with UF FSA, we organized a dessert fundraiser featuring Filipino treats such as puto queso and mango float! Through the sale of these traditional desserts, we raised funds to purchase school supplies for students in need. This initiative allowed us to celebrate Filipino culture while giving back to the community and supporting educational access for young learners at Malaya Elementary School.
Through UF MAA, we organized donation drives at every GBM to consistently support individuals and families in need. By incorporating service into each meeting, we encouraged sustained member engagement and made giving back a regular part of our organization’s culture. These efforts helped collect essential items while fostering a strong sense of community responsibility and social impact.
With UF PNSA, we incorporated community giving initiatives into every PNSA GBM and event, encouraging members to bring essential items to support the students. By embedding service into each gathering, we created a culture of consistent outreach, compassion, and collective responsibility. These efforts reflect our commitment to leadership, service, and meaningful community impact.
