This Hanok model is a combination of traditional building and modern IoT technology.
Unlike western-style buildings, the basic frame was constructed without using nails or glues but only traditional fineness methods .It also attaches a window cover to the door, allowing light to enter the house during the day and controlling humidity. And with the eaves length, the amount of sunlight is adjusted according to the season.
Examples of modern technology installed include a Bluetooth connection between Arduino and Hanok control app, which enables control of fine dust concentration level, temperature and humidity read-out, door opening and closing, LED, and automatic door closing system triggered by flame sensor and rain water sensor.
At the starting of this project, we wanted to make a common traditional Korean house around us , but we found the school buildings were constructed in Western way(almost every school in korea), and we started to build old school structure in connection with the traditional architecture technology.
In order to restore as close to real life as possible, we visited Dosan Seowon and measured various parts.Like any traditional Korean house made, almost every part was processed and components were made by hand. (The inspection report of this entire structure was carried out by the Cultural Heritage Administration.)

It was little difficult to find the exact actual measurement documents, but through the documents obtained by the Cultural Heritage Administration, we were able to understand the figures and various structure drawings.
Entirely made without adhesive, the interior was emptied considering the space for further arduino device installation.
The main floor part of hall . As with the other parts, it was produced using only the traditional method.
Each joints were fixed by wood plates.
This part is where the column and roof began to be built. It took quite a long time to cut each column.
Our chisels had heavy damages during this process, maybe we were lack of technics at that time.
This is the frame of the roof that will go into the upper part of the foundation. It was very difficult to recreate the curvature of the eaves and the eaves, but it was successfully completed through trial and error.
(Chu-nyeo refers to angle rafter.)
For IoTlization(....), we installed temperature, humidity, fine dust concentration calibrate sensors, and automation doors.
Measured values are displayed on LCD monitor and Hanok control app.
This is UCC, process of making Smart Hanok. (Additional photos below.)
Eaves are able to control the sun in season, showing effect. The sun rises high in hot summer, so if you have long eaves, it works as shade. In contrast, sun rises low in the winter, the room is warm even with eaves. And this is how the sun shine is controlled, this means indirect heating and cooling effect.
The main ingredient of Hanok is wood.Normally, we use glue or nails to build a house, but when we build a Hanok, we're told that it's green enough to go back to nature if we don't use the house over time.
