Our lab is working on the world-famous Bhut Jolokia, also known as Ghost Chili, for its fiery, hot pungency content in its fruit. The current research work in the lab includes understanding the molecular basis of extreme pungency in Ghost chili, comparative and evolutionary genomics of different capsicum genomes, and the development of translational genomics tools for breeding secondary metabolites and agronomic traits in Capsicum species. Our lab uses molecular genetics and computational genomics approaches for identifying genes and metabolic networks to understand the intricacy of the mechanisms governing important traits in Capsicum species.
