I earned my Bachelor’s from the London School of Economics, a Masters of Advanced European Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges) and Ph.D. from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ECARES). I joined Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 1998 where I currently teach EU Competition Policy (undergraduate), Empirical Industrial Organization (graduate) and European Economic Governance (graduate).
During 2008-2011, I was a member of DG Competitions Chief Economist Team, where I worked on the development of horizontal policies actively participated in merger, antitrust, and state aid cases. I participated in the EU Commission’s Sector Inquiry of the pharmaceutical industry.
For the period 2011-2015, I was Senior Economic Advisor and Technical Assistance Coordinator (for Labour and Welfare policies, Social Security, Innovation), in the EU Commission’s Task Force for Greece.
My research focuses on the empirical analysis of competitive processes. Currently, my focus is on the Commission’s Pharmaceutical Reform proposal, and in particular, on the legislative framework applicable to Orphan Drugs that treat Rare Diseases.
I am a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, Paris and London) and Senior Fellow of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovation in Healthcare (i3h, Brussels).
In addition to my academic job, I have done consultancy work in competition related matters.
