A free supported course in promoting grassroots live music!
that means what YOU like, or even YOUR MUSIC and others you know.

The Independent Promoter is one of the most important people in the music business at the grassroots level, it’s a creative rôle, it’s invaluable experience for a career in live music promotion & production, it’s where many of the biggest names in the business started, and many of today’s most successful artists built a following by promoting their own events and related artists.

This series of workshops is led by people working in the business locally, and is supported by Arts Council England, The Bell Inn in Bath, and other city venues including Komedia. We’re aiming, this time anyway, at LIVE sounds, not DJ-based.

You already know the most important bit if you follow live music, know what you like, seek it out, try to see more, or are familiar with a scene.

You probably know some of the rest of it too, but we’ve arranged this as a series of small group chats with professionals working locally, you’re bound to pick up something useful and you’ll learn about the other people you will encounter on the ground floor.

There will be 6x2 hour workshop sessions, arranged at times to suit you, covering issues like tech., marketing, and how to keep a room full of people safe & happy.

This is followed by 2 free nights each in the 60-capacity Bell Back Bar for you to present what you want: the scheme will pay for room hire, PA & engineer, and a marketing budget: you need to find the performers and make whatever financial arrangements you want with them and your audience: tickets, pay on the door, subscribe, donate on the night, do it all for free, whatever suits…

Wishing to make this opportunity accessible to those on a low income, there is, if you need it and on application, a small access fund for eg. bus fares to come in to workshops, or a babysitter. We are targeting younger people [over 18] for the opportunity because we think they have the energy and the knowledge of new groups, but if you’re older, don’t feel excluded, try us!

There are 4 places, for individuals or partnerships, and the workshops start in April.

APPLY NOW by EMail telling us who you are, what you’ve done in music [don't worry if that doesn't seem like a lot, that's not the point], and why you’d like to do this - steve@thebellinnbath.co.uk - we will close applications when we’re sure we have the right people
