Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 1, 2026
Shield AdBlocker ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the Extension does and does not collect.
Data Collection
Shield AdBlocker does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically, the Extension does not collect:
Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
Browsing history or web activity
Website content
IP addresses or location data
Financial or payment information
Authentication credentials
Health information
Communications data
Local Storage
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your browser:
Extension enabled/disabled state
Ad blocking and tracker blocking toggle preferences
List of websites you have chosen to whitelist
A count of blocked requests (for display in the popup)
Installation date (to show "days active" in the popup)
This data is stored entirely on your device and is not transmitted to any server, third party, or external service.
Network Requests
The Extension uses Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API to block network requests to known advertising and tracking domains. This blocking happens locally within the browser. The Extension does not intercept, read, modify, or log the content of any network requests.
Third-Party Services
The Extension does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services. There are no external API calls, telemetry, or crash reporting mechanisms.
Remote Code
The Extension does not load or execute any remote code. All functionality is contained within the Extension package.
Permissions
The Extension requests the following permissions, all of which are necessary for its core ad-blocking functionality:
declarativeNetRequest — to block requests to ad-serving and tracking domains
storage — to save your preferences locally
activeTab — to identify the current site for the whitelist feature
tabs — to open the welcome page upon installation
Host permissions (all URLs) — to apply ad-blocking rules across all websites
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
