**Privacy Policy**
This privacy policy applies to the Fire Maps app for mobile devices, together with any related services operated by TeamProjectBJX (collectively, the "Application"). TeamProjectBJX is hereby referred to as the "Service Provider" and acts as the data controller for the limited purposes described below.
**Summary**
Fire Maps has no user accounts, no servers operated by the Service Provider, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Everything you create in the app stays on your device. The only information that leaves your device is the ordinary network traffic required to download map tiles and public wildfire data from the third-party providers listed below, which necessarily see your device's IP address. Your location, if you choose to share it with the app, never leaves your device.
**What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?**
The Application does not collect, log, or store any personal information when you download and use it. Registration is not required, and there is no account, login, or user profile.
The Service Provider operates no servers and receives no data from the Application. There is no backend to which your information could be sent.
When the Application is used with an active internet connection, technical protocol data (such as your IP address) is transmitted to the third-party servers listed below in order to facilitate network connectivity and deliver the content you requested. The Service Provider does not receive, retain, or use this data. Those third-party operators may log it in accordance with their own privacy policies, over which the Service Provider has no control.
**Does the Application collect location information of the device?**
The Application never collects or transmits your location.
With your permission, the Application accesses your device's **approximate (coarse)** location on the device only, in order to centre the map on your position and to preselect the nearest data region. Precise GPS location is not requested, and background location is not requested. Your coordinates are never sent to the Service Provider or to any third party, and are not retained after the current session.
You may deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings. The Application remains fully usable without it; only the location-based convenience features (centring the map on your position and automatic region detection) become unavailable.
**What information is stored on my device?**
The Application stores its data locally on your device only, using your device's standard app storage. This includes:
* The monitored regions you create, including the name, coordinates, radius, tags and notification settings you choose for each;
* Cached wildfire data for those regions, so the app can show results when you are offline;
* Your app preferences, such as theme, tag colours and background-refresh settings;
* A cache of previously viewed map tiles, which expires according to the standard cache headers sent by the tile provider.
This information never leaves your device, is not backed up to any service operated by the Service Provider, and is not accessible to the Service Provider. Deleting a monitored region removes its stored data, and uninstalling the Application removes all of it.
**What permissions does the Application request, and why?**
* **Internet and network state** — to download wildfire data and map tiles, and to check whether a connection is available before a scheduled refresh.
* **Approximate location (coarse)** — optional; used only on your device, as described above.
* **Notifications** — to display wildfire alerts for the regions you have chosen to monitor.
* **Vibration** — to allow those notifications to vibrate, according to your device settings.
* **Run at startup** — to restore the scheduled background check after your device restarts.
* **Wake lock** — to allow a scheduled background check to finish once it has started.
The Application does **not** request precise GPS location, background location, contacts, calendar, camera, microphone, phone, SMS, call logs, external storage, or any advertising or device identifier. The Application does not run a foreground service.
**Notifications and background activity**
If you enable notifications for a monitored region, the Application periodically checks for new wildfire activity in the background — approximately every 30 minutes, subject to your device's power management, and subject to any battery or Wi-Fi-only restrictions you have set in the app.
These checks download public wildfire data and evaluate it entirely on your device. Notifications are generated locally by your device. The Application does not use push notification services, and no notification content, region information, or device identifier is transmitted to the Service Provider or to any third party.
**Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?**
The Service Provider does not collect or share your information.
However, the Application loads map tiles and wildfire data **directly** from third-party servers. When it does, those operators necessarily receive your device's IP address and the map coordinates being requested, and may log this information under their own privacy policies. The Service Provider has no access to those logs and receives no data from these providers.

No other third parties receive data from the Application.
**Information you choose to send elsewhere**
Some features hand information to another app at your request:
* Sharing the details of a wildfire sends the text you are sharing to whichever app you select.
* Opening a wildfire's location in a maps application sends that wildfire's coordinates (not your own) to that application.
* Opening a help or policy link opens your device's browser.
These actions only occur when you initiate them, and the information is then handled by the app or website you chose, under its own privacy policy.
**International transfers**
Some of the third-party providers listed above operate servers outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where your IP address is processed by those providers, it may be processed outside the EEA under their own safeguards and privacy policies. The Service Provider does not itself transfer any personal data, as it receives none.
**Tracking, analytics, advertising and cookies**
The Application contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking or profiling software of any kind. It does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies, and contains no embedded web browser. No automated decision-making or profiling is carried out.
**Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK)**
Where the Application accesses your approximate location, this is done on the basis of your **consent**, which you give through your device's permission prompt and may withdraw at any time in your device settings.
Where technical protocol data such as your IP address is transmitted to the third-party providers listed above, this is necessary in order to deliver the map and wildfire content you have requested.
**Your rights (EEA/UK)**
Because the Application does not collect personal data, there is normally no personal data held by the Service Provider to access, correct, port, restrict, or erase.
If you have contacted the Service Provider directly, or otherwise voluntarily provided information, you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of that information by contacting teamprojectbjx@gmail.com. You may also object to or request restriction of its processing, and withdraw any consent you have given.
You additionally have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country of residence.
**Data retention**
The Service Provider retains no data collected through normal use of the Application, because none is collected. Data stored locally on your device is retained until you delete it within the Application or uninstall the Application. Any correspondence you voluntarily send to the Service Provider is retained only for as long as necessary to respond to it, and is deleted on request.
**What are my opt-out rights?**
Since the Application does not collect personal information through normal use, uninstalling it simply removes the Application from your device, along with all locally stored data.
You may also decline or revoke the location and notification permissions at any time in your device settings without uninstalling the Application.
If you contact the Service Provider directly or voluntarily provide information by other means, you may request deletion of that information by contacting teamprojectbjx@gmail.com.
**Children**
The Application is not intended for children under 16 years of age, or such higher age as required by applicable law. The Service Provider does not knowingly solicit data from children or market to them. Since the Application does not collect personal information through normal use, children's data is not at risk from use of the Application alone. If you voluntarily provide personal information through other means and are under 16 years of age, your parent or guardian must provide consent on your behalf where permitted by law.
**Security**
Because the Application does not collect personal data, the risk of personal data exposure is minimal. All network requests made by the Application use encrypted HTTPS connections. However, no security system is completely secure. The Service Provider implements reasonable safeguards to protect systems and any data it holds.
**Data Breach Notification**
Since the Application does not collect personal data through normal use, the risk of a data breach affecting your personal data is minimal. If a breach occurs involving any data you have voluntarily provided, the Service Provider will notify you as required by applicable law.
**Changes**
The Service Provider may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy with an effective date. Where required by law, the Service Provider will seek your consent to material changes before they take effect.
Previous versions of this Privacy Policy will be maintained and made available upon request by contacting the Service Provider at teamprojectbjx@gmail.com.
This privacy policy is effective as of 2026-08-03
**Your Consent**
By using the Application you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. Where processing is based on consent — such as access to your approximate location — you may withdraw that consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal.
**Contact Us**
If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about the practices, please contact the Service Provider via email at teamprojectbjx@gmail.com.
