ColorScout Privacy Policy

Overview
ColorScout does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data. All functionality runs on your device and data remains on your device unless you explicitly copy a value to your clipboard.

Scope
This policy applies to the ColorScout Chrome extension (“Extension”).

Data We Handle (On Your Device)

• Color values and history: The Extension saves a list of colors you select to your browser’s chrome.storage.local. This storage is local to your device and is not sent to any server.

• Clipboard: When you click a copy button or confirm a pick, the selected color is written to your clipboard.

• Active tab access: On your action (popup button or keyboard shortcut), the Extension runs the EyeDropper to read a color from the current page. It does not read or store page content.

What We Do Not Do

• No account, login, or user profile.

• No analytics, tracking, or telemetry.

• No transmission of data to our servers or third parties.

• No sale or sharing of data.

Permissions Justification

• storage: Save your color history locally so it persists between sessions.

• activeTab + scripting: Run the EyeDropper on the current tab when you invoke the picker (user‑initiated).

• clipboard access: Copy colors only when you click copy or confirm a pick.

• Host permissions: Not requested. The Extension operates with activeTab on user action only.

How We Use Data

• Provide the core functionality of picking and copying colors.

• Show recent colors and basic contrast information locally in the popup.

Data Retention

• Color history remains in your browser’s local storage until you clear it (by clearing extension/site data) or uninstall the Extension.

• We do not retain data on any servers.

Your Choices

• You can clear extension data via your browser settings or by uninstalling the Extension.

• You can choose not to use copy actions; the Extension will not write to your clipboard unless you click copy or confirm a pick.

Children’s Privacy

• The Extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal data.

Security

• Data is processed locally on your device.

• We recommend keeping your browser up to date to benefit from the latest security protections.

International Transfers

• None. We do not transfer or store data on servers.
