Summaries ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our Chrome extension.
Data Collection
We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers.
The extension operates entirely on your device and does not track, monitor, or collect any personally identifiable information.
Information Stored Locally
The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:
Settings & Preferences
Summary length preference (short, medium, long)
Summary tone preference (professional, casual, technical, ELI5)
Default language selection
Minimum character count setting
Summary History
Last 20 summaries you've created
Original text snippets (first 200 characters only)
Timestamps of when summaries were created
Usage statistics (total summaries, time saved)
Important: All this data is stored locally on your device only. It is never uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone.
Data Processing
Text Summarization
When you click the "Summarize" button:
The selected text is sent to Groq API (third-party AI service) for processing
Groq processes the text and returns a summary
The summary is displayed to you and optionally saved in your local history
What we send to Groq:
Only the text you explicitly select and choose to summarize
Your language preference
Summary length and tone preferences
What we DO NOT send:
Your name, email, or any personal information
Your browsing history
Information about other websites you visit
Any data from pages you don't explicitly summarize
Third-Party Services
Groq API
We use Groq's AI service to generate summaries. When you use the summarization feature:
Selected text is sent to Groq's servers for processing
Groq may process this data according to their privacy policy

No Analytics or Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics
We do not use any tracking pixels or cookies
We do not collect usage statistics beyond what's stored locally on your device
Permissions Explained
The extension requires the following permissions:
activeTab
Why: To access the text you select on supported websites
Usage: Only activated when you click the "Summarize" button
Limitation: Cannot access tabs you're not actively using
storage
Why: To save your settings and summary history locally
Usage: Stores preferences and history on your device only
Limitation: Data never leaves your device
clipboardWrite
Why: To copy summaries to your clipboard when you click "Copy"
Usage: Only when you explicitly click the copy button
Limitation: Cannot read from clipboard, only write
Host Permissions (facebook.com, twitter.com, x.com, reddit.com, linkedin.com)
Why: To inject the "Summarize" button on these platforms
Usage: Only adds UI elements, doesn't collect data
Limitation: Only works on these specific domains
api.groq.com
Why: To send selected text to Groq for AI summarization
Usage: Only when you click "Summarize"
Limitation: Only sends text you explicitly select
User Control
You have full control over your data:
Clear History
Click the extension icon → History tab → "Clear History" button
This deletes all locally stored summaries and statistics
Reset Settings
Change any setting in the Settings tab
Settings are saved locally and can be changed anytime
Complete Data Removal
Uninstall the extension from Chrome
All local data is automatically deleted
Data Retention
Settings: Stored until you change them or uninstall the extension
Summary History: Last 20 summaries only (older ones are automatically deleted)
Usage Stats: Stored until you clear history or uninstall
Children's Privacy
This extension does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The extension is designed for general audiences and does not target children.
Security
All data is stored locally using Chrome's secure storage API
No data transmission except selected text to Groq API for summarization
No user accounts or authentication required
No passwords or sensitive information collected
Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
Access your locally stored data (via extension settings)
Delete your data (clear history or uninstall)
Stop using the extension at any time
