Nopamine ("the app", "we", "our") is a mindful screen-time companion built to keep your data on your device. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app does and does not collect, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
In short: everything sensitive stays on your device. The only information that may leave your device is anonymous, aggregate product-usage analytics. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics is disabled by default and only enabled if you explicitly opt in.
The following information is stored only on your device (inside a local database within Apple's App Group container) and is never transmitted to us or any third party.
Nopamine does not require an account, login, server, or cloud sync.
This includes:
Your reflections — your "Why I Scroll" answers, including triggers and places. This is the most sensitive information stored by the app and never leaves your device.
Your companion — its name, species, appearance, and history.
Apps you choose to guard — stored only as opaque system tokens provided by Apple's Screen Time framework. Apple does not expose the identities of these apps to us, and we never receive them.
Your activity history — including resisted urges, urges you gave in to, quiet windows, and your calm-window schedule.
You can export or permanently delete all of this information at any time within the app.
Nopamine uses Apple's Screen Time technologies, including:
Family Controls
Managed Settings
Device Activity
These frameworks allow the app to display a calm block screen on the apps you choose during the hours you choose.
All processing occurs entirely on your device.
Apple does not share the identities of your selected apps with us, and we do not transmit them anywhere.
To understand whether Nopamine is helping users and how the product can improve, the app may send anonymous product-usage events to our analytics provider.
This is the only information the app ever sends off your device.
Nopamine has:
no accounts
no login
no email collection
no profile
Analytics uses a randomly generated identifier solely to estimate:
Daily Active Users (DAU)
Weekly Active Users (WAU)
Retention
This identifier cannot identify you.
If you reinstall the app, you appear as a new user. If you use two devices, each device is counted separately. This is an intentional privacy trade-off so we never need to identify individuals.
The analytics events are limited to the following:
App opened
App version
Apple operating system version
Onboarding step completed
Screen Time permission granted or declined
Companion adopted (species only)
Companion retired (number of days kept)
Number of guarded apps (count only)
Number of guarded categories (count only)
Number of guarded websites (count only)
Calm windows saved (count only)
Calm Mode enabled or disabled
Urge outcome:
Let it pass
Gave in
Quiet window completed
Companion fed (count only)
Whether a reflection was answered or dismissed (never its contents)
Which tab was viewed:
Today
Insight
The Year
Calm
Analytics enabled or disabled
If paid features are introduced in the future:
Purchase screen shown
Purchase completed (product identifier only)
Nopamine never sends:
Reflection contents
Trigger answers
Place answers
App tokens
Guarded app names
Guarded app identities
Companion name
Any free-form text you enter
We do not use:
Session recording
Screen replay
Automatic tap recording
Automatic capture of on-screen text
Only the specific analytics events listed above are transmitted.
Analytics is processed on our behalf by a third-party analytics provider using servers located in the United States.
For users located in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, this may involve a transfer of anonymous analytics information to the United States under appropriate legal safeguards, including:
a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)
Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where applicable
Because analytics is disabled by default in these regions, no transfer occurs unless you explicitly opt in.
Analytics is off by default.
No analytics identifier is created, and no analytics information is transmitted unless you explicitly enable analytics.
You can change your choice at any time:
Calm → Privacy
Turning analytics off immediately stops further transmission and clears any pending analytics events.
Anonymous analytics is enabled by default.
You may disable it at any time from:
Calm → Privacy
Nopamine uses Apple's on-device MetricKit to collect crash and performance information locally so issues can be diagnosed.
We do not upload this information.
Separately, if you have enabled Share iPhone Analytics in your iOS settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymised crash reports through App Store Connect.
These reports contain technical crash information only and do not include your app content.
This process is controlled entirely by Apple and your device settings.
We rely on the following legal bases under applicable privacy laws:
Analytics — your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Core app functionality — performance of the service you requested.
Your on-device information remains on your device until you:
delete it within the app, or
uninstall the app.
Anonymous analytics events are retained by our analytics provider according to its standard retention period.
Because analytics data is anonymous and not linked to your identity, it cannot be traced back to you.
Because Nopamine does not identify users and has no account system, we generally cannot identify or retrieve analytics associated with a particular individual.
For information stored on your device, you remain in full control.
You may:
view it
export it
delete it
at any time within the app.
You can also remove all information by uninstalling the app.

Nopamine is not directed toward children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Please refer to the App Store age rating for intended audiences.
If this Privacy Policy changes, we will update the Last updated date above and, where required by law, notify you within the app.
