PRIVACY POLICY FOR PRINT SERVICE PLUGIN
================================================================================
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & CORE PRIVACY COMMITMENT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Print Service Plugin ("the Extension") is dedicated to protecting user privacy. We believe that a browser printing utility should perform its function directly on your device without collecting, monitoring, or transmitting your personal data.
Our core privacy principles:
• We do NOT collect or store your browsing history.
• We do NOT collect your printed documents, highlighted texts, or files.
• We do NOT operate tracking servers, telemetry, or third-party analytics.
• We do NOT sell, lease, or share any user data with third parties.
• All printing operations execute 100% locally on your computer.
2. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED: WHAT WE USE & WHY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To function correctly, the Extension requests a strictly minimal set of browser permissions. Here is exactly what each permission does and why it is necessary:
• "activeTab":
- Purpose: Allows the extension to interact with only the specific tab currently open and in focus when you click the extension icon or trigger the print shortcut.
- Why it is needed: To read document titles for print headers, check if text has been highlighted for selection printing, and trigger the standard print dialog.
- Privacy impact: The extension CANNOT monitor your tabs in the background. It only receives temporary access to the active page at the exact moment you click the button.
• "scripting":
- Purpose: Allows the extension to temporarily apply print-friendly styles to the active webpage.
- Why it is needed: When Eco Mode or Clean Print is turned on, a temporary CSS stylesheet is injected into the page to strip dark backgrounds, advertising banners, and navigation menus before invoking window.print().
- Privacy impact: Temporary and local. No script or data is transmitted externally.
• "storage":
- Purpose: Allows the extension to save your preferences in Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local).
- Why it is needed: Remembers your selected printer preset (e.g., Brother HL Laser, Brother MFC Color, Brother QL Label), Eco Mode toggle state, paper size, and margin preferences across browser sessions.
- Privacy impact: Data is saved strictly on your local computer and is never synced or uploaded to external servers.
• "contextMenus":
- Purpose: Adds a convenient "Print Selected Text (Eco Mode)" shortcut to the browser's right-click context menu when you highlight text on a webpage.
- Privacy impact: Does not read or track web browsing.
3. ARE ALL PERMISSIONS REALLY NECESSARY? (MINIMIZATION & SAFETY ANALYSIS)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Older or poorly designed extensions (including earlier third-party extensions that were removed from the Chrome Web Store) frequently requested excessive, high-risk permissions such as:
• Broad Host Permissions ("<all_urls>" or "*://*/*"):
- Why we DO NOT use it: Requesting "<all_urls>" allows an extension to read and modify data on every website you visit at all times in the background. This creates high security risks and causes Google Chrome to display severe warnings.
- Our approach: We eliminated "<all_urls>" entirely. By using "activeTab", our extension only accesses the single page you are actively viewing when you explicitly decide to print.
• Persistent "downloads" permission:
- Why we DO NOT use it: The standard "downloads" permission allows managing the user's entire download history.
- Our approach: For exporting clean HTML files, we use standard, sandboxed browser Blob downloads without needing broad file system management permissions.
By following the Principle of Least Privilege, Print Service Plugin ensures fast Chrome Web Store approval, zero security vulnerabilities, and complete peace of mind for users.
4. DATA RETENTION & SECURITY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since no personal information or browsing data is collected, transmitted, or hosted on remote servers, there is zero risk of server data breaches or unauthorized access. All user preferences (printer profile, paper size) remain confined within your local Chrome profile and can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES & ANALYTICS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Extension does NOT contain third-party SDKs, advertisements, affiliate trackers, Google Analytics, or remote telemetry code. No outgoing network requests are initiated by the extension.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY & COPPA COMPLIANCE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Extension does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
7. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any updates to this Privacy Policy will be reflected with a revised date. In accordance with Chrome Web Store policies, significant changes will be notified via extension release notes.
