If you spent a week in Bathurst and environs you would not exhaust the richness of this remarkable and historic city. It is Australia's oldest inland city and it has evolved from a settlement driven by convicts and their military overseers to a hugely successful service centre for the surrounding rich agricultural area and then to a major administrative centre and, most recently, an important regional academic centre with a number of prominent schools and the main campus of Charles Sturt University. So successful has Charles Sturt's Media course been that it is now fair to say that both broadcasting and print journalism are dominated by its graduates. But Bathurst is more than this. It has an impressive (probably unequalled) array of historic public and private buildings; is surrounded by fascinating historic villages; has excellent restaurants; can claim to have one of the finest museums in the country; and was home to one of the country's most humble and beloved Prime Ministers. It is also the home to the country's most prestigious motor race - the Bathurst 1000.

Feed lambs, chickens, horses and learn about their uses. Have a led "pony" ride on a Shetland pony, a regular pony or draught horse. Maybe take a sled ride behind a draught horse, maybe a sulky ride with one of these special horses and lots of fun activities over a very busy one or more hours.
Evans Crown is located 3km south East of the village of Tarana. Access is from Honeysuckle Falls Road off the Lithgow, Tarana, Sodwalls Road. There is an information board at the start of the walking track.
The reserve comprises 425 hectares with spectacular granite formations. The summit at Crown Rock is 1104 metres above sea level. To the Waradjuri Aboriginal people it was a special place of initiations and coroboree and it continues to hold high significance.

A delightful heritage house museum. This Victorian era bungalow was left to the National Trust in 1976 and the collection it holds features pieces that once belonged to some of the original settlers of the district.
Built in 1845 by Reverend Thomas Sharpe, the house and its contents were left to the National Trust by the last resident, Miss Ida Traill in 1976. The house museum contains a wide and varied collection of furniture, ceramics, horse racing memorabilia and art, much of it bequeathed to Miss Traill by her antecedents, some of whom were the original settlers of the Bathurst district.

Take a journey back in time on Mount Gray walking track, when hopeful gold miners braved the remote bush conditions in their quest for fortune.
You’ll wander through undulating bushland on this medium grade walk to visit the place of a gold-mining community from the 1880s, listed on the National Estate as a historic heritage site.
The machinery and buildings have long-since gone, but the remaining earthworks are a reminder of the past. It was the miners from Mount Gray who built the dance platform inside the Abercrombie Archway.
