With PrinterShare you can share your printer in less than a minute and let other people connected to the Internet (your friends, relative and colleagues) print paper documents on it. You don't need to know or deal with specifics of network sharing, complex settings and figuring out Windows access rights.

Our software automatically detects printers connected to your computer including local network printers. As long as you can print in it yourself, you can share the printer and let other people use it.

I have attempted many times to utilise UCS print service to share the printer on the network and most attempts have failed (Windows cannot find printer) or in some cases the printer share is found and printer installed, but nothing (not even a test page will print), in this case the file /var/log/cups/access_log shows 'Print-Job successful-ok" but again, nothing was printed. However this file also shows many entries ending with "CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer client-error-not-possible), example:

I have been trying for hours to get this printer to work from my Print Server and have done much research online to resolve this issue but to no avail, I have exhausted all my options and now I am asking here, if anyone can please help me find out what is wrong with my configuration and get my printer working, I would greatly appreciate it.

As I said, I managed to get it to print once, but it stopped after that, I think it may have stopped because the printer has no black and color ink left in their cartridges, and I think I remember reading somewhere that CUPS in UCS will stop a printer if the printer reports a problem (so maybe no ink will stop the printer from printing jobs from the server?), or something along those lines. I am really hoping to use UCS (because I dont have access to spare windows systems, and I also have Mac systems in my network) so I can use the Quota system (keep track of who does how much printing). I have since re-installed my entire network, with fresh installs of UCS, so before I set up the printer again, I will get some new cartridges and put them in, hopefully that will alleviate the issue, otherwise I will have to think of something else.

yeah OK, the quota stuff makes sense. If you give it a go again, remember that you can always access CUPS directly via :631 (log in as administrator when asked). You can check the printer status there and reactivate it if it is currently stopped.

Can anyone think of a way of Re-Sharing a Shared Printer? When I connect the shared printers to Server 2008 R2, it comes up as a network printer, and settings take affect on the host (not the server) so I can't Re-Share it.

The reason I need this is I have a number of workstations that run software in which I have to hardcode the printer name. In an emergency I have to use USB printers shared from a workstation, which also needs to print. So on the workstation the printer name is "Printer" where as on the other computers it's "Printer on Workstation", so I can't hardcode the printer names.

A printer is a logical construct that "maps" to a physical device. There's nothing stopping you from creating a second printer, with a Share name of whatever you require, that "maps" to the same physical device.

Why bother sharing it twice? Just install the drivers and create a TCP/IP port and map the second computer directly to the printer, or are you traversing networks here that is limiting direct TCP/IP connectivity from the second computer to the printer?

Instead of connecting to the printer on the server, go through the Add New Printer wizard on the PC and create a new Local Port, and use: \servername\printershare as the local port name. Then select your driver, and the printer will be usable as whatever you name it.

Hello community,

is there anyone using Windows smb printer shares on Windows Server 2019?

Since the last Windows patchday, we face an issue, that the Macs are no longer able to communicate over smb with our spooler servers. If I am right, at the servers smb version 2 is activated. The behavior is, that when a printer job was sent, the job is shown inside the local spooler of the Mac and then it should be sent to the spooler server. This fails. The installed printer is getting to pause immediately.

We did not change anything in our "Mac World", but only installed the Windows updates on the spooler servers.

Reset the Mac printer system and reinstall the printer did not work.

If we install a printer manually, the message appears "communication via smb with the server impossible" .

Have anyone a suggestion ?

Thank you for your answers and

stay health

I had this issue last month. SMB for print is now deprecated after a windows update. You will need to move your printers to lpd. Problem here is lpd is no longer installed by default on Windows servers so you will need to get lpd protocol instaled by those that look after your windows servers. After that you will need to remove the smb print from all your Macs and push out a replacement queue using lpd.

Don't know much about the server side of things, but before we used to use JAMF, we used to always have issues with our main print service printers going to 'paused' status. The only fix we had was to remove the printer and add it again.

Have you tried removing the printer from the devices and re-installing it?

Good luck.

In Universal Print, "sharing" a printer makes that printer accessible to users. Before a user can print to a printer, it must be shared and that user must be granted access. To share printers and set permissions by using PowerShell, see the Universal Print PowerShell module documentation.

Deleting a printer share and re-creating it later will force users to reinstall the printer on their Windows devices. If you're replacing a broken or old printer device with a new one, use the Swap Printer feature instead, which will prevent breaking users' printer installations.

Hey Bambulab community! I've noticed a fun trend among tech enthusiasts where we give names to our beloved gadgets. I'm curious, do any of you name your 3D printers? If so, what's its name and why did you choose that?

I call mine "The Beast" (P1S aka Beast) and it's been my trusty sidekick through many projects. I'd love to hear if any of you have given your printers special nicknames and the stories behind them!

You can get the hostname (\\MACHINENAME) either from System Properties, or by running HOSTNAME at the Command Prompt. The Share Name is what the printer is shared as in the Printer Properties->Sharing tab

The main key for sharing printers is to put the computers to the same workgroup and set the printer as shared printer. There is a great tutorial for the process but it is in hungarian so I translated it.

With this technique the Windows XP PC will connect to the Win 7 one and use it as a server. The printer is connected to the Windows 7 PC and both the PC and (of course) the printer are turned on. In this tutorial we assume that the printer works properly in the Win 7 PC.

The process is finished, so now you should be able to print anything via clicking File then Print. You can choose the printer, and if the remote PC is turned on (and the printer is powered and not working) the print should start.

Also, now with the advent of Windows 8, there are v4 printer drivers (notice Typ 3, or Type 3 on my screenshots). V4 drivers are cross-architecture, so hopefully we won't be having this problem in a couple of years.

I think you connect the printer to XP machine and you want to share it , and any 32 or 64 bit windows OS can use HP P4014n.I have same printer in one of my customer networks, but before any guide, why you are not using "HP Jet-direct internal print servers" that build into this printer? and forget sharing and .....?

The driver being offered by the print server is apparently incorrect for XP.Windows 7 might be offering a 64-bit driver that is incompatible with 32-bit Windows XP. If you tell us the printer's make, we might be able to help you with finding a suitable driver for XP.

You could try connecting the printer locally to the XP computer, thus letting itdiscover and install the correct driver. If XP is incapable of finding a suitable driver, you would need to download and install one from the manufacturer's website, that is if the printer didn't come with a drivers CD.

Have you ever gotten a call from a friend who just rank out of ink, asking to come over with a USB key to use your printer when a paper or job assignment has to be submitted the next morning, but the timing just wasn't right for you? PrinterShare can help.A neat little application, PrinterShare is a program which gives you the ability to share your printer over the Internet. They can print it at your place without disturbing you and you can drop it off later.Another cool use is if you don't have Microsoft Office installed and you're unable to open the file.
