The Plot
The episode begins with the sisters preparing for a photo shoot for Biatta Intimates, a lingerie company that has signed them as the faces of their brand. They are excited about their modeling career and their upcoming reality show. They also talk about their belief in the law of attraction and how they use positive affirmations to manifest their dreams.
However, their happiness is short-lived when the police knock on their door and arrest Alexis on charges of participating in a series of burglaries that stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry, clothes and other items from celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and Megan Fox. The burglaries were carried out by a group of young people who called themselves the "Bling Ring" and used the internet to track the whereabouts of their targets. Alexis denies any involvement in the crimes and claims that she was only friends with some of the members of the group.
The arrest shocks the sisters and their mother, Andrea, who is a former Playboy model and a recovering addict. They try to support Alexis and hire a lawyer to defend her. They also face media scrutiny and public backlash as they are portrayed as spoiled and entitled brats who are obsessed with fame and materialism. The episode ends with Alexis being released on bail and returning home to her family.
The Reception
The episode received mixed reviews from critics and viewers. Some praised the show for its entertainment value and its depiction of the dark side of Hollywood. Others criticized the show for its lack of authenticity and its glorification of crime and vanity. The episode also sparked controversy for its use of footage from the actual burglaries that were obtained by the producers from the police. The episode drew 1.3 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched premieres on E! network.
The Aftermath
The arrest of Alexis was not the end of her legal troubles. She was later convicted of one count of felony burglary and sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years of probation, and ordered to pay restitution to her victims. She also struggled with drug addiction and entered rehab several times. She eventually turned her life around and became a sober coach, an author, a podcast host, and a mother.
The show was canceled after one season due to low ratings and negative feedback. However, it gained cult status among some fans who found it fascinating and hilarious. The show also inspired a 2013 film called The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Emma Watson, which was based on the real-life events of the burglaries.
